Scholarship for Outstanding Students Studying in Macao facilitates the internationalisation of higher education student enrolment

To strengthen the exchange in higher education between Macao and the countries along the Belt and Road and Portuguese-speaking countries, the Higher Education Fund launched the Scholarship for Outstanding Students (Portuguese-speaking and ASEAN countries) Studying in Macao this year. The scheme aims to attract outstanding students from Portuguese-speaking countries and the countries in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Scholarship recipients are chosen from the students enrolled in local higher education institutions in the academic year 2019/2020.

The Administrative Committee of the Higher Education Fund selected 17 recipients, of which 7 are from Portuguese-speaking countries including São Tomé and Príncipe Mozambique and Guinea-Bissau; and 10 from Malaysia, Vietnam, the Philippines and other ASEAN countries. These recipients, currently enrolled in the first year of bachelor’s degree programmes, are recommended by the University of Macau, the Macao Polytechnic Institute, the Macao Institute for Tourism Studies, and the University of Saint Joseph.

The Higher Education Fund will continue its cooperation with local academic institutions in promoting the scholarship, thereby drawing in more top-notch students from Portuguese-speaking and ASEAN countries to pursue undergraduate study in Macao. These efforts will foster a multicultural campus, strengthen cultural and humanistic exchange, and internationalise the higher education in Macao.
