In response to the SAR Government’s electronic service initiative, the Macao Public Library under the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from its Portuguese acronym) recently launches self-services for library card application and e-payment. By introducing these convenient measures, the Library seeks to encourage residents to use the library resources and services, thereby encouraging reading habits in the community.
In order to facilitate the Library Card application, IC has launched a self-service in collaboration with the Identification Services Bureau, in order to enable residents to apply to or renew the Macao Public Library Card or update their personal information through any one of the some 70 self-service kiosks of the Identification Services Bureau at more than 40 locations throughout the city. After selecting “Macao Public Library” on the screen of the kiosks, users should follow the instructions and insert their identity card, scan their fingerprints, and enter or update their personal information such as address or contact number. For users under the age of 12, it is necessary to insert their parent’s or guardian’s identity cards and scan their fingerprints, as well as enter the personal information as instructed. Upon completion of the application process, the user will receive an SMS on the contact number provided, and can instantly enjoy the library resources and services, including borrowing books or audio-visual materials, reserving library items online, viewing check-in and check-out records, and reading e-books and e-magazines.
The self-service kiosks are available in the Macao Central Library, Sir Robert Ho Tung Library, Patane Library and Taipa Library. Residents may apply to or renew their library cards via the self-service kiosks and borrow audio-visual materials using other self-service facilities in the libraries during the extended opening hours when library staff are off duty.
In addition, the Macao Public Library launches e-payment services at the reception counters of all branch libraries (except at the Senado Library), where residents may settle their payments with “MacauPass”, “MPay” or “Quick Pass”. The payment services cover overdue fines for borrowed items, compensation for lost or damaged books or audio-visual materials, and photocopy or printing charges. The settlement will be processed by the library staff and the users may simply swipe the card or provide a QR code for the staff to scan. For enquiries, please contact the Library through tel. no. 28930077 or 28567576 during office hours, or visit the Macao Public Library website at www.library.gov.mo.
