Spirit of innovation and reform key to new principal officials


The fifth-term Chief Executive, Mr Ho Iat Seng, today stated that the composition of the team of those who will act as principal officials and as Public Prosecutor-General illustrated the fifth-term Government’s determination to introduce reform and promote innovation.

Speaking to reporters today at Government Headquarters, Mr Ho said he believed the new appointees would make good use of their respective vast experience, accumulated throughout the years in various positions serving the Macao society. He added that he believed that his team would make its best effort to propel Macao’s development.

The appointed officials and the Prosecutor General-designate will assume their positions once Mr Ho is sworn in on 20 December 2019, to lead the fifth-term Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR).

Mr Ho also announced today that Deputy Commissioner Against Corruption, Ms Hoi Lai Fong, will be the Chief-of-Office of the Chief Executive’s Office.

During today’s press conference, Mr Ho expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Central Government for trusting him and for endorsing all of his nominations for principal officials and for Public Prosecutor-General.

“Unity and Efforts, Change and Innovation” would be the cornerstone for the work to be carried out by the fifth-term Government, Mr Ho said. He added that he and his team were determined to serve the country and to serve Macao with probity and dedication.

Regarding governance philosophy, Mr Ho said that the fifth-term Government would adopt a scientific decision-making method, and undertake its responsibilities with courage when exercising its duties.

The new team would continue to fully and accurately implement the “One country, two systems” principle; strictly adhere to the Constitution and the Macao Basic Law; and proactively safeguard the sovereignty of the country, its security and development interests, stressed the fifth-term Chief Executive.

Mr Ho added the new-term Government would firmly safeguard the full authority of the Central Government, and step up efforts to advance the principles of “One country, two systems” with Macao characteristics; “Macao people governing Macao”; and the city’s enjoyment of a high degree of autonomy.

Mr Ho additionally said that garnering public opinion and social sentiment were one of the priorities for the fifth-term Government, adding that his team would listen to critiques from the public and strengthen accountability.

Regarding anti-corruption efforts, the new-term Government would be steadfast in establishing a more transparent Government and in combating corruption. The fifth-term Government would give full support to the Commission of Audit to exercise its duties, and pay great attention to follow-up work based on suggestions contained in reports from the Commission of Audit.
