Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that visitor arrivals totalled 2,910,118 in November 2019, down by 10.9% year-on-year. Same-day visitors (1,501,711) and overnight visitors (1,408,407) dropped by 10.5% and 11.4% respectively year-on-year. The average length of stay of visitors held steady year-on-year at 1.2 days; overnight visitors extended their stay by 0.2 day to 2.4 days, while the duration for same-day visitors stood at 0.2 day.
Visitors from mainland China decreased by 11.1% year-on-year to 2,030,742 (51.3% of them were from Guangdong Province), with those travelling under the Individual Visit Scheme falling by 14.9% to 898,715. Visitors from the Republic of Korea (42,968) and Hong Kong (571,071) dropped by 36.5% and 3.4% respectively, whereas those from Taiwan (83,006) went up by 1.1%. Meanwhile, visitors from the nine Pearl River Delta cities in the Greater Bay Area increased by 23.7% year-on-year to 943,074; those coming from Zhuhai (292,478) and Guangzhou (184,350) surged by 37.4% and 26.2% respectively.
Analysed by mode of transport, visitor arrivals by land went down by 5.9% year-on-year to 2,178,088 in November, with those arriving through the Border Gate (1,610,968) and via the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (350,259) decreasing by 3.3% and 19.8% respectively. Visitor arrivals by sea declined by 39.0% year-on-year to 413,775, while those by air rose by 16.7% to 318,255.
In the first eleven months of 2019, visitor arrivals reached 36,322,775, a growth of 12.7% year-on-year. Same-day visitors (19,165,718) and overnight visitors (17,157,057) increased by 23.8% and 2.4% respectively. The average length of stay of visitors remained the same year-on-year at 1.2 days, with that of overnight visitors (2.2 days) and same-day visitors (0.2 day) staying unchanged. Analysed by country/place, visitors from mainland China (25,828,409), Hong Kong (6,698,965) and Taiwan (983,641) rose by 13.2%, 18.6% and 1.6% respectively, while those from the Republic of Korea (696,123) dropped by 5.4%. Visitors from the United States (185,098), Canada (68,382) and the United Kingdom (55,342) recorded year-on-year growth, whereas those from Australia (76,716) saw a decrease.
