Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the general unemployment rate (1.7%) and the unemployment rate of local residents (2.3%) for September-November 2019 both decreased by 0.1 percentage point from the previous period (August-October 2019). Meanwhile, the underemployment rate held steady at 0.5%.
Total labour force was 394,100 and the labour force participation rate was 69.9%. Total employment was 387,600, an increase of 300 from the previous period; number of employed residents totalled 280,300, down by 500. Analysed by industry, employment in Gaming & Junket Activities decreased while that in the Construction Sector increased.
Number of the unemployed was 6,500, down by 500 from the previous period. The proportion of new labour market entrants seeking their first job increased by 0.7 percentage points to 19.2% of the total unemployed.
In comparison with September-November 2018, the unemployment rate stayed steady; meanwhile, the labour force participation rate dropped by 0.8 percentage points while the underemployment rate rose by 0.2 percentage points.
