Government launches channel on Telegram

The Government Information Bureau launched today its “Government News Channel” on the Telegram messaging platform, to offer the public an additional, easily-accessible route to the latest official news.

The new service delivers to users Government news in three languages: Chinese, Portuguese and English. Members of the public who have installed Telegram messenger software either on a computer or smartphone can subscribe to the channels. The address for the Chinese-language version is: https://t.me/macaogcs. For Portuguese it is: https://t.me/macaogcsPT. For English it is: https://t.me/macaogcsEN.

The Government Information Bureau delivers to members of the public on a daily basis, official news using a number of platforms. They include: the Macao SAR Government Portal (www.gov.mo); the Bureau’s public website (news.gov.mo); the mobile application “MSAR News”; a page on the social media platform Facebook; and now the newly-added Telegram service.

In addition, the Government Information Bureau launched on 10 February an account on the online social media platform Instagram, with the username “macaogcs”. This was in order to respond to the increasing use of that platform by young people. Since its launch, the Instagram account has been providing updates featuring photographs, videos and infographics about the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) alert, with a view to enabling the public to receive in a timely manner official information about developments related to the newly-identified pathogen.
