Foreign exchange reserves and nominal effective exchange rate index for the pataca – February 2020


The Monetary Authority of Macao announced today that the preliminary estimate of Macao SAR’s foreign exchange reserves amounted to MOP180.7 billion (USD22.50 billion) at the end of February 2020. The reserves increased by 0.5% from the revised value of MOP179.9 billion (USD22.47 billion) for the previous month. Macao SAR’s foreign exchange reserves at end-February 2020 represented 10 times the currency in circulation or 81.9% of pataca M2 at end-January 2020.

The trade-weighted effective exchange rate index for the pataca rose 1.19 points month-to-month and 2.99 points year-on-year to 108.6 in February 2020, implying that overall speaking, the exchange rate of pataca grew against the currencies of Macao’s major trading partners.
