Nucleic Acid Testing Plan for Non-tertiary teaching and Non-teaching Staff and Cross-border Students

The Education and Youth Affairs Bureau (DSEJ) announced earlier the plan to resume classes of non-tertiary education schools in stages, senior secondary and junior secondary educational stages will resume classes on 4th May and 11th May respectively.

Students’ safety is the utmost concern of the DSEJ. To strengthen the epidemic prevention work after the resumption of classes, the DSEJ has implemented the “Nucleic Acid Testing Plan for Non-tertiary teaching and Non-teaching Staff and Cross-border Students” which is free of charge. The teaching and non-teaching staff and students of schools in Macao, who are not residing in Macao, can return to school after taking the nucleic acid test.

The teaching and non-teaching staff of non-tertiary education schools will have an one-off test at the former site of the Children Comprehensive Evaluation Centre of the Conde S. Januário Hospital. Cross-border teaching and non-teaching staff as well as students will be tested in Zhuhai. The plan will be carried out in stages. Between 27th and 30th April, teaching and non-teaching staff of secondary schools are the first to be tested to ensure that classes of senior and junior secondary schools can be resumed smoothly. The testing of teaching and non-teaching staff of other educational stages will be carried out in sequence in accordance with the arrangements for resumption of classes.

All cross-border teaching and non-teaching staff as well as students have to be tested once every seven days in order to travel freely to and from Zhuhai and Macao. Regarding the relevant testing, the DSEJ and the Health Burau have closely coordinated with the relevant departments in mainland China, the testing will be conducted in the designated hospitals in Zhuhai. The teaching and non-teaching staff and cross-border students will be informed of, through the school, the details and arrangements of the test, such as the related testing date, time and location, and so on.

Besides, the DSEJ has issued the “Guidelines for Class Resumption” to schools, requiring schools to clean and disinfect the campus thoroughly before resuming classes and to conduct drill on class resumption. The drill is to be carried out between 20th and 29th April. During the period, directors and chiefs of the DSEJ, together with the personnel of the Health Bureau visit schools to understand the situation of the drill of the school, pay close attention to the quantity of health and epidemic prevention supplies and equipment, and communicate with the related school personnel to implement the various work and arrangements before class resumption. The DSEJ will also hold an explanatory session for school health promotion staff to strengthen their management of health and epidemic prevention after resumption of classes and the implementation of related work of health education.Meanwhile, two work meetings with persons in charge of schools will be held to deepen the various details of the work of resumption of classes so as to provide support for schools to resume classes smoothly.

The DSEJ will pay close attention to schools’ preparatory work for resumption of classes and maintain close communication with various education stakeholders to strengthen cooperation and carry out the work related to the class resumption plan in a proper manner.
