UM’s online workshop on IC advances in China attracts over 10,000 people

The Workshop on IC Advances in China 2020.

The Workshop on IC Advances in China (ICAC Workshop) 2020, which was jointly organised by the University of Macau (UM), Fudan University, and the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC), and co-organized by Zhuhai UM Science & Technology Research Institute was held successfully. More than 30 leading Chinese experts and scholars in the field attended the online workshop remotely to share their latest research findings. The live webcast of the workshop was watched by over 10,000 people from around the world, including professors, students, engineers, industry practitioners, and even dozens of venture capital investors. One third of the audience members were from companies and research institutes.

The workshop aimed to provide a platform for academia and industry to have more open technical discussions, to explore opportunities for collaboration, and to brainstorm new ideas and directions. This year, more than 30 leading Chinese experts and scholars in the field of IC design presented their latest research findings, covering a wide range of topics such as wireless communication, machine learning, data conversion, analogue circuits, and power management.

Four speakers were selected for the ICAC 2020 Best Speaker Award through an audience voting process. They are Prof Chi Baoyong from Tsinghua University, Prof Ye Le from Peking University, Prof Sun Nan from the University of Texas at Austin (UT Austin), and Prof Li Qiang from UESTC.

The honorary chairs of the workshop were Prof Wang Zhihua from Tsinghua University and Prof Rui Martins from UM. The conference chairs were Prof Hong Zhiliang from Fudan University, Prof Li Qiang from UESTC, and Prof Mak Pui-In from UM. The technical programme chairs were Prof Lu Yan from UM, Prof Xu Jiawei from Fudan University, and Prof Sun Nan from UT Austin. Other UM professors who attended the online event include Sin Sai Weng, Law Man Kay, Zhu Yan, Chan Chi Hang, Yin Jun, and Huang Mo.

The official promotion for the International Solid-State Circuits Conference (ISSCC) was held at the same time as the workshop. During the event, ten members of the ISSCC International Technical Programme Committee from China shared the latest trends in the sub-areas of IC design.
