Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that licensed motor vehicles in Macao totalled 239,718 as at end-May 2020, up slightly by 0.7% year-on-year. Light automobiles (109,420) and heavy motorcycles (99,958) rose by 1.4% and 2.2% respectively; however, light motorcycles (22,985) dropped by 7.2%. New registration of motor vehicles in May increased by 23.7% year-on-year to 1,097, with that of heavy motorcycles (670) surging by 64.2% while light automobiles (387) falling by 7.0%. In the first five months of 2020, new registration of motor vehicles decreased by 12.4% year-on-year to 4,280. Number of traffic accidents in May totalled 743, with 260 injuries. In the first five months, there were 3,445 traffic accidents, involving 1,202 victims and 3 of them were killed.
Cross-border vehicular traffic in May declined by 89.9% year-on-year to 45,888 trips, of which light automobile (20,797 trips) tumbled by 94.8%, whereas heavy truck (25,067 trips) decreased by merely 12.9% on account of the continued freight services amid the epidemic. In the first five months of 2020, cross-border vehicular traffic dropped by 60.6% year-on-year to 851,509 trips. Meanwhile, gross weight of containerized cargo by land in May grew by 45.8% year-on-year to 1,953 tonnes, of which inward transit cargo (1,098 tonnes) leapt by 666.6%. In the first five months, gross weight of containerized cargo by land rose by 28.6% year-on-year to 9,197 tonnes.
Gross weight of port containerized cargo fell by 37.2% year-on-year to 8,103 tonnes in May; cargo handled at the Ká-Hó Harbour (851 tonnes) reduced by 86.0% while thatshippedthrough the Inner Harbour (7,252 tonnes) went up by 6.3%. In the first five months, gross weight of port containerized cargo dropped by 30.3% to 42,210 tonnes.
Arriving and departing commercial flights at the Macau International Airport in May declined by 96.2% year-on-year to 238 trips. Air cargo totalled 2,525 tonnes, a drop of 19.0% year-on-year; gross weight of inward cargo (164 tonnes) and transit cargo (21 tonnes) decreased by 71.1% and 94.9% respectively while that of outward cargo (2,339 tonnes) rose by 9.6%. In the first five months, arriving and departing commercial flights fell by 70.2% year-on-year to 8,811 trips, and air cargo reduced by 31.5% to 10,441 tonnes.
As at the end of May 2020, there were 112,722 fixed-line telephone subscribers and 1,964,364 mobile phone subscribers, down by 7.0% and 7.9% respectively year-on-year. Internet subscribers grew by 9.4% year-on-year to 612,149. In May, the duration of internet usage went up by 5.6% to 138 million hours. Total duration of internet usage reached 679 million hours in the first five months, an increase of 6.0% year-on-year.
