The Macao Polytechnic Institute organised a virtual art seminar on “Benefits of Learning Music” by Professor Dai Baisheng on 2 July. The seminar attracted more than 100 registrations.
Dai Baisheng introduced the different benefits of learning music through four aspects: the use of music, the gains from learning in music, the education gains outside music, and the purpose of learning music. Music can express emotions, evoke the imagination, and have an impact on people’s physiology and psychology. Learning music can enhance personal aesthetic judgment ability, cultivate the mind and creativity, etc. He emphasised that music learning is an “emotion-experience” educational process, not simply skill training or knowledge accumulation. It should not just focus on the results, but more on the process.
After the seminar, Dai Baisheng also answered questions raised by the participants. There was an interactive atmosphere around multiple issues such as music learning for adults and children, the career of music in the cultural and creative industries, the degree programmes in music at MPI, and so on.
