Applications for the “2021 Scripts in Focus—Film Scriptwriting Advanced Programme”, jointly organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym) of the Macao SAR Government, the Film Administration of Guangdong Province and the Create Hong Kong, are now open until 20 April. All local filmmakers are welcome to join. Shortlisted projects will receive guidance from professional directors and scriptwriters, two representative projects will be selected from Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao separately. Among these six projects, two winning projects will be selected and each will be awarded a prize.

The “2021 Scripts in Focus” aims to promote film production through the cultivation of filmmaking talent, thereby spawning more creative films for the industry. Veteran film professionals will be invited to serve as instructors and help improve the shortlisted projects by providing guidance and suggestions regarding the story, plot, structure and integrity of the scripts.

Local applicants interested in this programme must be aged 18 or above and hold a Macao SAR Permanent Resident Identity Card, and must be the original conceiver of the submitted project. The group of instructors will select a maximum of four film projects for the instruction stage based on two criteria, namely theme and originality, connotations and narrative. The instruction stage will take place from June to August, in Mandarin and without interpretation. Upon completion of the instruction sessions in a total of 30-hours spanning three months, applicants of each shortlisted project shall submit their final scripts. The organisers will select two of the four projects to represent Macao in the joint review for projects from Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao. After that, two winning projects out of a total of six from the three regions will be selected and each will be awarded a prize of MOP$60,000.
