“Macao Week in Hangzhou” grandly opens Welcoming Mainland visitors to Macao

“Macao Week in Hangzhou” is grandly unveiled

Organized by the Secretariat for Economy and Finance of the Macao Special Administrative Region Government, Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of Hangzhou Municipal People’s Government, Hangzhou Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, Television and Tourism as well as Shangcheng District People’s Government of Hangzhou Municipality, the “Macao Week in Hangzhou” was grandly unveiled today (26 March) to enliven Hubin Pedestrian Street with a mega roadshow in Hangzhou until 29 March. The roadshow not only showcases the city’s diverse offer of travel experiences, commercial opportunities and colorful dimensions of “tourism+”, but also promotes Macao as a healthy, safe and quality destination, seeking to attract Mainland visitors for travel and spending in Macao.

On behalf of the Secretary for Economy and Finance of the Macao SAR Government, MGTO Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes remarked, “With the availability of direct flights between Hangzhou and Macao, Zhejiang Province has ranked among Macao’s top ten major sources of Mainland visitors in recent years. Starting from last month, all Mainland visitors are exempt from quarantine in Macao. Having geared up for the mega promotion in advance, we at once brought the “Macao Week” to Hangzhou to promote Macao as a healthy, safe and quality destination and showcase our city’s charm as a cultural crossroad of China and Portugal.” She expressed sincere appreciation to the great support and coordination offered by the entities of Hangzhou.

Deputy Mayor of Hangzhou Municipal People’s Government, Ke Jixin, remarked that he led a delegation of Hangzhou Municipal People’s Government to visit Macao in late 2020. The Macao SAR Government not only achieved remarkable results with its effective measures of pandemic control and prevention but also kept pushing forward electronic and primary-level governance in addition to the steady development of state key laboratories and technology innovation, all of which made a strong impression upon him during the visit. Pertinent government entities of both sides also led an in-depth discussion on ways to advance exchange and cooperation in various fields. The Macao Week in Hangzhou now deepens and carries on the significance of the visit. It is also a major fruition of the reinstatement of travel permit issuance for Mainland visitors to Macao.

Macao Week in Hangzhou showcases colorful dimensions of “tourism+”

The Macao Week in Hangzhou promotes integration across fields such as tourism + MICE, tourism + culture and creativity, tourism + e-commerce and tourism + sports, while showcasing Macao’s colorful dimensions to residents and visitors in Hangzhou and raising the city’s profile as a healthy, safe and quality destination. Held at Hubin Pedestrian Street from 26 – 29 March, the roadshow features an array of booths themed as follows: overview about Macao, events and cultural tourism; Macao’s World Heritage, Intangible Cultural Heritage as well as cultural and creative industries; sport events; MinM made in Macao and local brands; products from Portuguese-speaking countries as well as a showcase of Macao’s tourism industry jointly presented by pertinent integrated tourism enterprises and airline company.

A LED screen modeled after the Ruins of St. Paul’s as well as arranged performances radiate the city’s charm at the main stage whereas a tourist information counter provides Macao travel tips at the venue.

The roadshow dazzles with glow-in-the-dark dragon dance, lion dance, magic show, Portuguese folk dance, street dance, special dance and the music band Tuna Macanese from Macao among different wonderful performances. Macao Tourism Mascot MAK MAK also shows up to greet residents and visitors in Hangzhou.

For giveaways at the Macao Week in Hangzhou, spectators can access the H5 page with a scan of the QR code at the tourist information counter, acquire all the QR code stamps at different themed booths and follow MGTO’s WeChat account (“MGTOweixin”) to redeem gifts at the tourist information counter.

During the event, pertinent integrated tourism enterprises and airline company present a wealth of special travel offers on air tickets, hotel accommodation, dining and more. Equivalent to a total of 90 million RMB, their special offers are promoted and sold at the roadshow and on their platforms.

Promotion for travel and MICE trade

MGTO and IPIM rode on this visit to organize a Macao tourism and MICE presentation seminar in Hangzhou on 25 March to present the strengths of the tourism and MICE industries in both cities and facilitate networking among industry delegates from both sides to boost mutual visitations.

Highlighting Macanese cuisine

MGTO, Macanese Gastronomic Brotherhood and Grand Hyatt Hangzhou together roll out a Taste of Macao Food Promotion from 26 March to 11 April. Two Macanese chefs from Macao, Antonieta Manhão and Rita Cabral, are invited to join the promotion which aims to promote Macanese gastronomy in Hangzhou, a unique culinary culture and valuable Intangible Cultural Heritage from Macao, to showcase Macao’s glamour as a Creative City of Gastronomy.

Online and offline event promotion

The organizers spotlight the Macao Week in Hangzhou via online and offline channels in the Mainland, including promotional campaigns by several travel KOLs on their online platforms as well as media coverage from Hangzhou, Macao and across the Mainland. During the Macao Week in Hangzhou, the units involved rigorously follow the COVID-19 prevention guidelines issued by Hangzhou’s public health authorities. Proper event arrangements are implemented to support pandemic prevention while all participants must adhere to the arrangements for pandemic prevention. On the other hand, visitors are advised to complete the formalities for entry and pandemic prevention before their trips to Macao and adhere to pandemic prevention guidelines issued by the Macao SAR Government during their stay.

Following the Beijing Macao Week successfully held last year, the Macao Week in Hangzhou is now held with the great support of different entities from Hangzhou and Macao. The organizers for the Macao Week in Hangzhou include the Secretariat for Economy and Finance of the Macao SAR Government, Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of Hangzhou Municipal People’s Government, Hangzhou Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, Television and Tourism, as well as Shangcheng District People’s Government of Hangzhou Municipality. The coordinators include Macao Government Tourism Office, Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute, Administrative Committee of Hubin Pedestrian Street District of Hangzhou Municipality as well as Hangzhou Hubin Pedestrian Street Commercial Development Co., LTD. The supporting entities include Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao SAR Government, Sports Bureau of the Macao SAR Government, Hangzhou Municipal Bureau of Commerce, Hangzhou Municipal Health Commission, Industrial Association of Macau, Macau Importers & Exporters Association, the Federal General Commercial Association of Macau Small and Medium Enterprises, Macanese Gastronomic Brotherhood and Grand Hyatt Hangzhou.
