CE meetings in Hainan bolster pragmatic cooperation

The Chief Executive, Mr Ho Iat Seng, attended on Tuesday (20 April) the opening ceremony of the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2021, where he heard a keynote speech delivered by President Xi Jinping via video link.

Mr Ho led a Macao delegation to Qionghai city, Hainan from 19 to 20 April. During his two-day visit to the province, he met with officials of Hainan Province and of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission.

In a meeting with the Secretary of the Hainan Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), Mr Shen Xiaoming, the two sides discussed how to bolster bilateral ties in economic and trade matters, tourism, developments related to high and new technology, financial services, traditional Chinese medicine, and the cultivation of talented individuals in order to support economic development.

Mr Ho also met with the Governor of Hainan Province, Mr Feng Fei. They shared insights on how to press ahead on cooperation between Macao and Hainan in relation to environmental protection, development of a modern seed industry and importation of talented individuals.

During the Hainan visit, the Chief Executive additionally had a meeting with the Chairman of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council, Mr Hao Peng. They exchanged views on cooperation regarding healthcare services, modern financial services, the science and technology sector, and cultural industries.

After the opening ceremony on Tuesday morning of the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2021, Mr Ho, along with Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Mr Ho Hau Wah, attended a luncheon with representatives of a delegation of Macao entrepreneurs. Later in the day, Mr Ho, accompanied by local officials, visited the Mova Mall duty-free complex in Haikou city in order to learn about its latest progress and prospects. He took note of the complex’s success story as a reference for Macao’s economic diversification effort.

During the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2021, the Secretary for Economy and Finance, Mr Lei Wai Nong, attended the “Macao-Zhuhai Global Investment Promotion Luncheon” and a session titled "Invigorate Development through Vibrant City Clusters: The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area as a Model".

The Macao delegation returned to Macao on Tuesday evening.
