MGTO and IPIM ride on “Macao Week in Jiangsu” to promote Macao tourism and MICE opportunities to the trade there

After holding Macao tourism and MICE presentation seminars at the Macao Weeks in Beijing and Hangzhou successively, Macao Government Tourism Office and the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute have commenced an array of promotional initiatives in various cities across the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area since March. Riding on the “Macao Week in Jiangsu”, the two offices organized the “Jiangsu — Macao Tourism and MICE Presentation Seminar” in Nanjing, the capital of Jiangsu Province, today (13 May), joined by a travel and MICE trade delegation from Macao. The seminar presented the strengths of Macao’s tourism and MICE industries and facilitated networking among industry delegates from both sides, while raising Macao’s profile as a healthy, safe and quality destination.

Director of Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes; President of the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM), Lau Wai Meng; Deputy Director of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of Nanjing Municipal People’s Government, Sun Man; Deputy Director of Nanjing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism, Xia Jun; First-level Consultant of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Nanjing Sub-council, Wei Shibin, attended the Seminar together with other personages including about 120 members of the travel and MICE trade from Jiangsu and Macao.

MGTO Director Senna Fernandes expressed her hope that the Seminar can manifest to Nanjing Macao’s cross-sector integration of “tourism + MICE” and vibrant dynamic as a healthy, safe and quality destination. She also hopes that the seminar can enable industry delegates from both sides to explore new opportunities for cooperation and develop innovative tourism products and services for boosting mutual visitations.

IPIM President Lau Wai Meng remarked that Jiangsu is a large province leading an externally-oriented economy and plays a major enhancer for the integrated development of Yangtze River Delta. As one of the major hubs in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Macao stands at the crossroad of the Country’s dual economic cycles. By enhancing cooperation in tourism and MICE, Jiangsu and Macao can foster their economic circulation and concerted development. He hopes that by deepening cooperation, the two destinations can connect their resources and strengths in tourism and MICE, enrich the spectrum of “tourism + MICE” as well as widen their exchange in trade and commerce.

Highlight tourism + in-depth travel

For tourism authorities, representatives of the travel and MICE trade as well as media in Nanjing, MGTO first introduced Macao’s latest tourism development and endeavors to revive its tourism market, besides promoting Macao’s diverse tourism resources and products, etc. To update Jiangsu’s trade on Macao’s latest “tourism +” elements, Macao’s travel trade presented a preview of Macao highlight tours to be launched in mid/late May. Featuring tailor-made choices and distinctive themed itineraries, the Macao Highlight tours aims to let visitors experience Macao’s profound history, cultural landscape and “tourism+” projects, in turn advancing in-depth tourism. At the seminar, IPIM presented Macao’s strengths as a MICE destination and encouraged MICE organizers to hold related activities in Macao. Riding on the Seminar, Nanjing Confucius Temple Cultural Tourism Group Co., Ltd. and Macau Leisure Tourism Services Innovation Association signed a strategic cooperation agreement to enhance cultural tourism exchange between industry delegates from Nanjing and Macao, and foster their concerted industry development. The seminar also featured business matching and networking on site, facilitating exchange and cooperation between tourism and MICE industry operators from Macao and Jiangsu.

An inauguration ceremony for the “Macao Week in Jiangsu – Taste of Macao Food Promotion” was also held at the seminar to lift the curtain upon the fourteen-day (13 – 26 May) promotional activity about Macanese and Portuguese culinary delights. Vice President of Macau Cuisine Association and Leading Chef of the “Macao Week in Jiangsu – Taste of Macao Food Promotion”, Lou Chi Seng, will present buffets in Macanese and Portuguese style at Jin’s Cafe of Jinling Hotel Nanjing, to bring into the limelight Macao’s unique gastronomic brand – Macanese and Portuguese cuisine, and manifest Macao’s glamour as a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy.
