Visitor arrivals for May 2021


Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that visitor arrivals to Macao totalled 866,063 in May 2021, an increase of 9.0% month-to-month and an upsurge of 5,268.3% year-on-year. Overnight visitors and same-day visitors added up to 473,808 and 392,255 respectively. The average length of stay of visitors shortened by 3.7 days year-on-year to 1.6 days, with that of overnight visitors (2.9 days) and same-day visitors (0.1 day) dropping by 11.8 days and 0.1 day respectively.

In terms of source of visitors, number of Mainland visitors rocketed by 5,276.8% year-on-year to 795,389, with 336,314 of them travelling under the Individual Visit Scheme. Visitors from the nine Pearl River Delta cities in the Greater Bay Area totalled 429,712, of whom 46.7% came from Zhuhai. Meanwhile, there were 64,265 visitors from Hong Kong and 6,363 from Taiwan.

Analysed by checkpoint, number of visitor arrivals by land in May shot up by 4,660.0% year-on-year to 764,547, and 618,370 (80.9%) of them arrived through the Border Gate. Visitor arrivals by air and by sea totalled 75,244 and 26,272 respectively.

In the first five months of 2021, number of visitor arrivals rose by 4.7% year-on-year to 3,399,310. Number of overnight visitors (1,843,579) increased by 20.0% year-on-year while that of same-day visitors (1,555,731) fell by 9.0%. The average length of stay of visitors went up by 0.3 day year-on-year to 1.7 days; the duration for overnight visitors (2.9 days) rose by 0.2 day whereas that for same-day visitors (0.1 day) went down by 0.1 day.
