The Chief Executive, Mr Ho Iat Seng, attends a session for various sectors of the community to mark the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China.
The Chief Executive, Mr Ho Iat Seng, today said the Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) would spare no effort in realising aspirations outlined by General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), Mr Xi Jinping, at the grand ceremony held in Beijing to mark the CPC’s centenary.
Macao was committed to advancing the successful implementation of the “One country, two systems” principle, while accelerating overall development progress; strengthening participation in the country’s major development strategies; and furthering integration into the work to progress national development.
Mr Ho made the remarks during a session in Macao for various sectors of the community to mark the CPC’s 100th anniversary.
In his speech, Mr Ho said he was honoured to be invited to Beijing to attend a ceremony on 1 July to mark the CPC centenary, whereby the CPC General Secretary, Mr Xi, delivered an important speech. Even more thrilling was learning that the country had brought about a historic resolution to the problem of absolute poverty in China, meaning the first-centenary goal, of building a moderately prosperous society in all respects, had been realised, he added.
The country was now marching in confident strides toward the second-centenary goal, of building China into a great modern socialist country in all respects, Mr Ho noted.
During today’s session, the Chief Executive shared three pieces of his understanding following his study of the important speech delivered for the centenary ceremony.
First, the CPC’s century-long history of leading the endeavours of the Chinese people had proven that without the CPC, there would be no new China, and there would not be such bright prospects for the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. Through tenacious struggle, the CPC and the Chinese people had shown the world that the Chinese nation has achieved tremendous transformation, from standing up and growing prosperous, to becoming strong, and that China’s national rejuvenation had become a historical inevitability.
Second, the CPC was the pioneer, the leader, and the guardian of the “One country, two systems” principle. Without the CPC, there would not be the prosperity and stability enjoyed in Macao under the “One country, two systems” principle. History had proven that the principle was the best proposal for solving the historical issues in relation to Hong Kong and Macao and the best systemic framework for Macao to maintain long-term stability and prosperity after returning to the motherland.
Third, leadership of the CPC should always be respected and safeguarded, and further effort should be made to maintain the successful implementation of the “One country, two systems” principle. The Macao SAR Government would be steadfast in upholding the CPC’s leadership, and would not allow in Macao any acts that posed a challenge to the authority of either the Central Government; the Constitution of the People’s Republic of China; or the Basic Law of Macao. The Macao SAR Government would unite the Macao community in realising aspirations outlined by the General Secretary, Mr Xi, at the grand ceremony to mark the CPC centenary, and during his inspection visits to Macao.
Meanwhile, Macao would spare no effort in advancing the steady progress of “One country, two systems” with local characteristics, in order to enjoy and share in the development progress and prosperity of the country, Mr Ho added.
The Chief Executive underlined that General Secretary, Mr Xi, had mentioned in his speech fresh important instructions regarding advancing the “One country, two systems” principle in the new era. Macao would dedicate utmost effort in: implementing accurately the aspirations of General Secretary, Mr Xi’s series of important speeches; safeguarding the Central Government’s overall jurisdiction; implementing the legal systems and enforcement mechanisms for the Macao SAR to safeguard national security; and protecting the country’s sovereignty, security, and development interests, thus ensuring and maintaining social stability and lasting prosperity and stability in Macao.
The Chief Executive also talked about the Macao SAR Government’s determined effort in accelerating overall development progress in Macao; promoting the Guangdong-Macao Intensive Cooperation Zone planned for Hengqin; stepping up effort for adequate economic diversification; and strengthening participation in the country’s major development strategies and furthering integration into national development progress.
In the new journeys lying ahead, Macao was committed to making further contributions in the realisation of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, Mr Ho added.
