The 1st International Conference on Encounter with the Human Sciences was successfully organized by the Portuguese PhD Program of the School of Languages and Translation (MPI) at MPI on November 25th, 2020. The response from participants was enthusiastic. The “International Symposium on Language and Cognition” was initiated by a renowned Brazilian researcher in cognitive linguistics, Prof. Maria Célia Lima-Hernandes, who is the founder of the “Language and Cognitive Research Group” (LinCog), the Faculty of Philosophy, Literature and Human Sciences (FFLCH) of the University of São Paulo (USP) in Brazil. So far, three editions of the LinCog conference have been held at the University of São Paulo (Brazil) (10-14/11/2014), Federal University of Fluminense (Brazil) and University of São Paulo (Brazil) (21, 23-25/11/2016), the University of Los Lagos (Chile) and the University of São Paulo (Brazil) (21-22/11/2017) respectively. This series of conferences has achieved fruitful results in promoting the development of interdisciplinary research in language and cognition. This year’s joint academic conference will feature keynote speeches from several world renowned scholars from home and abroad with distinguished expertise in the field of language and cognition research. In addition, a selective number of thematic symposiums will be held in parallel sessions. Through these parallel presentations, mini-training courses and other forms of communication, participants are provided with ample opportunities to share new research results and promote the development of language and cognitive research. The conference organizer will provide online English-Chinese and Portuguese-Chinese interpretation services upon request by participants.
