Possible warning signals to be issued due to the impact on "Cempaka"

Tropical Storm Cempaka possesses a relatively small circulation and is expected to move northerly within the next 24 hours. It will be closest to Macao during midnight and morning on the 20th, passing within 100km southwest of Macao. Affecting by Cempaka’s circulation, public should be aware that winds will be strengthening to strong wind level with heavy showers. If Cempaka intensifies further and moves closer to Macao, the possibility of issuing Typhoon Signal No.8 should not be neglected. The SMG will monitor closely the development of Cempaka.

Besides, as Cempaka intensifies further and move towards a more northerly track than expected, though it is not during the high phase of the astronomical tide on the 20th , storm surge arise from Cempaka may lead to light flooding within some low-lying areas of the Inner Harbour. The SMG may consider issuing the Blue Storm Surge Warning this afternoon.
