Possible warning signals to be issued due to the impact on "Cempaka"

Under the influence of tropical storm Cempaka, there will be heavy showers, and the winds will reach strong wind level with occasional strong gust. Cempaka is expected to move northerly in the next 24 hours, and will be closest to Macao during midnight and morning on the 20th, passing within 100km southwest of Macao, generally moving towards the area between the St John’s lslands and Yangjiang. If Cempaka intensifies further and moves closer to Macao, the possibility of issuing Typhoon Signal No.8 should not be neglected. The SMG will monitor closely the development of Cempaka. The public is advised to prepare all necessary safety measures in advance and pay attention to the latest weather information.

Besides, as Cempaka intensifies further and move towards a more northerly track than expected, though it is not during the high phase of the astronomical tide on the 20th , storm surge arise from Cempaka may lead to light flooding (less than 0.3m) within some low-lying areas of the Inner Harbour. The Blue Storm Surge Warning was issued, the public in the low-lying area should be aware.

Public can learn the possibility of being affected by the tropical cyclone over the specific period of time in Macao so that necessary precautions can be well prepared earlier.
