Under the influence of tropical storm Cempaka, there will be heavy showers, and the winds will reach strong wind level with occasional strong gust. Cempaka is expected to move northerly in the next 24 hours, and will be closest to Macao during midnight and morning on the 20th, passing within 100km southwest of Macao, generally moving towards the area between the St John’s lslands and Yangjiang. Since Cempaka already had the sign of intensification this afternoon and it is possible to intensify further into a severe tropical storm tonight, the possibility of issuing Typhoon Signal No.8 tomorrow increases. The development of Cempaka is closely being monitored. The public is advised to prepare all necessary safety measures in advance and pay attention to the latest weather information.
Besides, as Cempaka intensifies further and moves towards a more northerly track than expected, storm surge is expected over low-lying areas of the Inner Harbour. The Blue Storm Surge Warning was issued. The highest flooding level is forecasted to be about 0.5m. The public in the low-lying area should be aware.
