Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that licensed motor vehicles in Macao totalled 244,946 as at end-June 2021, up by 2.0% year-on-year. Light automobiles (112,126) and heavy motorcycles (103,852) went up by 2.3% and 3.6% year-on-year respectively. New registration of motor vehicles in June rose by 9.1% year-on-year to 1,105, with that of light automobiles (497) lifting by 38.1% whereas that of heavy motorcycles (563) falling by 9.5%. In the first half year of 2021, new registration of motor vehicles increased by 22.7% year-on-year to 6,497. There were 1,062 traffic accidents recorded in June, with 359 persons injured. In the first half year, total number of traffic accidents reached 6,266, which involved 2,146 injuries.
Cross-border vehicular traffic in June soared by 491.4% year-on-year to 305,283 trips, attributable to a boost of 971.1% in light automobile trips (276,893); besides, heavy truck trips (26,873) grew by 4.4%. Meanwhile, gross weight of containerized cargo by land edged down by 0.6% year-on-year to 2,367 tonnes, with 97.5% (2,308 tonnes) passing through the Checkpoint of Macao Port Administration Area of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge. In the first half year, cross-border vehicular traffic (2,131,206 trips) and gross weight of containerized cargo by land (13,155 tonnes) increased by 134.5% and 13.6% year-on-year respectively.
Gross weight of port containerized cargo grew by 27.8% year-on-year to 11,727 tonnes in June; cargo being handled at the Inner Harbour (9,225 tonnes) and the Ká-Hó Harbour (2,502 tonnes) expanded by 15.8% and 107.1% respectively. In the first half year, gross weight of port containerized cargo went up by 35.3% year-on-year to 69,514 tonnes.
Arriving and departing commercial flights totalled 1,580 trips in June, an upsurge of 351.4% year-on-year. Air cargo rose by 11.9% year-on-year to 3,104 tonnes, of which gross weight of inward cargo (340 tonnes) and outward cargo (2,743 tonnes) grew by 11.2% and 12.4% respectively. In the first half year, number of arriving and departing commercial flights fell by 18.5% year-on-year to 7,469 trips, while air cargo surged by 43.0% to 18,900 tonnes.
As at the end of June, there were 103,582 fixed-line telephone subscribers, down by 7.4% year-on-year. Number of mobile phone subscribers decreased by 30.7% year-on-year to 1,244,233, ascribable to a 59.4% drop in prepaid SIM card subscribers (398,519). In June, internet subscribers rose by 5.9% year-on-year to 646,469. Total duration of internet usage in June went up by 4.4% year-on-year to 143 million hours, whereas the duration in the first half year inched up by 0.5% to 820 million hours.
