Some people were seen in protective clothing, knocking on doors and offering to sterilise residents’ apartments, according to an online post discovered by the Judiciary Police. Those people are believed to disguise as staff of the disease control centre with the aim to commit fraud or other crimes.
The Judiciary Police has not received any reports regarding the online post, and urges members of the public not to let strangers in to their houses to avoid fallen prey to robbery, theft or fraud.
Preventive measures
- You should verify the authenticity of the pandemic information received online or by other means. Do not forward any unconfirmed messages as they may prompt unnecessary speculation or unease.
- If someone pretends to be staff of the disease control centre and asks to check your apartment, please call your maintenance office or the Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre on 28700800 immediately.
- If you are unable to verify his/her identity or the purpose of his/her visit, call your maintenance office and get him/her to leave.
- Stay alert at all times. Call the police for help if you encounter similar incidents or other crimes.
