The Chief Executive, Mr Ho Iat Seng, thanked on Sunday (8 August) the Central Government and China Media Group (CMG), for authorising Macao to broadcast television coverage of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Their support enabled the Macao public to watch the event at home and to support the national team.
The authorisation for Macao to broadcast the games was widely applauded by the local community. The amount of Olympics-related news was overwhelming in local media reports, added Mr Ho.
The Summer Olympic Games are the most anticipated sporting event across the world, said Mr Ho. In the Tokyo 2020 Olympics that ended on Sunday (8 August), the Chinese delegation had sent an aggregate of 777 athletes to Japan, and won a total of 38 gold medals, 32 silver medals and 18 bronze medals. Such impressive results had gained great honour for the country, and for the people across the nation, noted Mr Ho.
Thanks to support from the Central Government and CMG, members of the public had opportunities to watch at home the highly-competitive games, and to appreciate the tenacity displayed by the national athletes in the pursuit of victory; their spirit of not giving up; and their spirit of teamwork. Such a spirit will further bind the Macao community as one, in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, and reinforce the city’s confidence that it can successfully handle challenges brought about by the disease, said Mr Ho.
The Chief Executive additionally stated the Macao Special Administrative Region looked forward to having closer ties with CMG, in order to promote the story of China to the world.
