The 15-day data collection for the 2021 Population Census has entered its sixth day today (12 Aug). In line with the pandemic prevention and control measures of the SAR Government, the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) has spared no efforts to promote online Census response. Until now, over 57,000 households have completed the online questionnaire, which accounted for 27.5% of the total. Starting tomorrow (13 Aug), DSEC will set up 12 questionnaire collection points to facilitate submission of paper questionnaires, and send SMS reminders to all residents in Macao to encourage Census completion.
Multiple Channels to Promote Census; SMS Reminders Sent to Residents to Complete Questionnaire
The Census questionnaire is simple and easy. It only takes households less than 5 minutes on average to complete the online short-form questionnaire and about 20 minutes to fill out the long-form questionnaire.
DSEC will start sending text messages to residents tomorrow (13 Aug) to remind them to submit the questionnaire. The text message does not serve as a means to collect information from households, but only as a way to appeal to the public to complete the online questionnaire, return the completed paper form or conduct a telephone interview via the Census Hotline at 8809 8809.
Setting Up Questionnaire Collection Points to Facilitate Submission of Paper Questionnaires
To facilitate submission of paper questionnaires, questionnaire collection points will be set up starting tomorrow at 2 offices of DSEC, 4 Census work stations, 3 Government Integrated Services Centres, and 3 government offices. Households may drop their completed paper questionnaire into the sealed box at any of the collection points. All information collected will be kept in strict confidence.
The questionnaire collection box will be guarded by DSEC staff and will be delivered to the headquarters for handling every day by dedicated staff via designated transport. In addition, DSEC staff at the collection points will also handle public enquiries regarding the Census.
DSEC Only Contacts Households When Necessary and Urges Public to Beware of Scams
DSEC reiterates that they will not take the initiative to contact households by telephone, email or text message to collect information, especially information on ID cards, credit cards or bank accounts. DSEC will only call the households on the number provided to verify the questionnaire data. DSEC urges the public to stay alert and beware of scams.
The Census notification letters have been posted to all building units in Macao in early August. Households who still have not received the letter may call the Census Hotline at 8809 8809 and DSEC staff will help them activate access to the online questionnaire, or households may conduct a telephone interview to complete the questionnaire.
To encourage early completion of the Census questionnaire, DSEC is holding “Early Census Response for Greater Chance of Winning Lucky Draw”.
