Tomorrow (19) marks the fourth Chinese Doctor’s Day, a festival observed in recognition of the contributions of generations of medical workers across China. According to the “Notice of the National Health Commission, the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the Logistic Support Department of the Central Military Commission on the Celebration Work for the Chinese Doctor’s Day 2021”, this year’s theme is “Building a shared dream on the centenary of the Chinese Communist Party, Implementing the original aspirations as Doctors”, commending medical workers for their sustained dedication to the lofty tradition of their predecessors, their perseverance in carrying out the original aspirations and mission amid waves of challenges, and their great contributions for national prosperity and rejuvenation, and the people's happiness.
On this occasion, the Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre (hereinafter referred to as “the Centre”) would like to pay tribute to all doctors across Macao for their professional and selfless dedication to the medical industry in Macao and in safeguarding the health, lives and safety of the general population. Faced with the continuing threat of COVID-19 since 2020, Macao has seen no community transmission of the coronavirus thanks to the joint efforts of all health personnel and members of the public. In the wake of the four confirmed cases reported on 3 August, in order to curb the spread of the coronavirus in the local community and ensure the safety of the population, Macao rolled out its first mass nucleic acid testing campaign on 4 August. With the concerted efforts of all health professionals across Macao, as well as the coordination and support from all walks of life and the general public, the unprecedented citywide testing drive was successfully completed within three days. When the Health Bureau started recruiting volunteers from the health sector immediately after the NAT drive, it has also received enthusiastic response from non-governmental health professionals, who upon enrolment promptly undertook training in sampling and auxiliary work in preparation for any possible mass testing activities in the future, striving to make Macao a healthy city that can effectively keep the COVID-19 pandemic at bay, giving their utmost to protect the health and lives of all Macao residents.
The Centre wishes to salute all doctors in Macao with sincere gratitude and appreciation for their professional and selfless dedication. It calls on every doctor in Macao to remain steadfast in their duties, continue to display professionalism and the spirit of selfless devotion, and stay true to their original aspirations and mission under the new normal of fighting against the COVID-19 pandemic, serving whole-heartedly for the well-being of the entire Macao population, and guarding together the city we call home.
