Visitor arrivals for July 2021


Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that visitor arrivals totalled 789,407 in July 2021, an uplift of 49.4% month-on-month and a boost of 966.7% year-on-year. Numbers of overnight visitors (412,735) and same-day visitors (376,672) bounced back by 1,634.5% and 650.2% year-on-year respectively. The average length of stay of same-day visitors (0.1 day) remained unchanged year-on-year and that of overnight visitors (3.4 days) shortened by 1.3 days; yet, the average duration for visitors increased by 0.5 day to 1.8 days on account of a growth of 20.1 percentage points in the proportion of overnight visitors (52.3%).

In terms of source of visitors, number of Mainland visitors rocketed by 989.4% year-on-year to 724,342, with 293,927 of them travelling under the Individual Visit Scheme. Visitors from the nine Pearl River Delta cities in the Greater Bay Area totalled 426,991, of whom 49.8% came from Zhuhai. Besides, there were 59,135 visitors from Hong Kong and 5,800 from Taiwan.

Analysed by checkpoint, number of visitor arrivals by land shot up by 829.9% year-on-year to 684,435 in July, and 551,831 (80.6%) of them arrived through the Border Gate. Visitor arrivals by air and by sea totalled 82,583 and 22,389 respectively.

In the first seven months of 2021, number of visitor arrivals rose by 41.1% year-on-year to 4,717,236. Overnight visitors (2,471,392) and same-day visitors (2,245,844) surged by 57.5% and 26.6% year-on-year respectively. The average length of stay of visitors increased by 0.2 day year-on-year to 1.6 days; the duration for overnight visitors (3.0 days) rose by 0.2 day whereas that for same-day visitors (0.1 day) decreased by 0.1 day.
