Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that licensed motor vehicles in Macao totalled 245,414 as at end-July 2021, up by 1.9% year-on-year. Light automobiles (112,294) and heavy motorcycles (104,215) went up by 2.2% and 3.5% year-on-year respectively. Meanwhile, new registration of motor vehicles in July dropped by 17.1% year-on-year to 1,053, with that of heavy motorcycles (573) falling by 24.2%. From January to July 2021, new registration of motor vehicles increased by 15.0% year-on-year to 7,550. Number of traffic accidents in July went up by 41.2% year-on-year to 1,254, with one person killed and 430 persons injured. In the first seven months of 2021, there were a total of 7,520 traffic accidents, which resulted in one death and 2,576 injuries.
Cross-border vehicular traffic in July soared by 322.7% year-on-year to 354,389 trips, attributable to a boost of 473.8% in light automobile trips (322,569); besides, heavy truck trips (29,673) grew by 7.6%. Meanwhile, gross weight of containerized cargo by land rose by 19.9% year-on-year to 2,273 tonnes, with 96.9% (2,202 tonnes) passing through the Checkpoint of Macao Port Administration Area of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge. From January to July 2021, cross-border vehicular traffic totalled 2,484,685 trips, an uplift of 150.3% year-on-year, and gross weight of containerized cargo by land increased by 14.5% to 15,428 tonnes.
Gross weight of port containerized cargo grew by 17.7% year-on-year to 12,140 tonnes in July; cargo being handled at the Inner Harbour (9,888 tonnes) and the Ká-Hó Harbour (2,252 tonnes) expanded by 11.7% and 53.9% respectively. In the first seven months of 2021, gross weight of port containerized cargo went up by 32.4% year-on-year to 81,654 tonnes.
Arriving and departing commercial flights totalled 1,736 trips in July, a hike of 461.8% year-on-year. Air cargo surged by 70.3% year-on-year to 3,488 tonnes, of which gross weight of inward cargo (431 tonnes) and outward cargo (3,045 tonnes) grew by 45.3% and 81.5% respectively. From January to July 2021, number of arriving and departing commercial flights dropped by 2.8% year-on-year to 9,205 trips, while air cargo grew by 46.7% to 22,387 tonnes.
As at the end of July, there were 102,805 fixed-line telephone subscribers, down by 7.3% year-on-year. Number of mobile phone subscribers decreased by 26.3% year-on-year to 1,227,570, ascribable to a 55.3% decline in prepaid SIM card subscribers (378,886). In July, internet subscribers rose by 6.8% year-on-year to 650,631. Total duration of internet usage in July dropped by 0.6% year-on-year to 134 million hours, whereas the duration in the first seven months of 2021 inched up by 0.4% to 954 million hours.
