CE congratulates newly-elected members of Legislative Assembly

The Chief Executive, Mr Ho Iat Seng, has conveyed his congratulations to all those elected to sit in the Legislative Assembly, following Sunday’s polling.

Mr Ho’s message was made after the official results of the election were announced by the General Audit Committee of the Legislative Assembly Election. The results confirmed the 14 directly-elected legislators and the 12 seats for indirectly-elected members to the Legislative Assembly.

The Chief Executive also expressed his thanks on behalf of the Government to those in the electorate that had exercised their right to vote, and to all election teams for taking part in the election.

The election was conducted strictly according to law, including the Macao SAR Basic Law and the Legislative Assembly Election Law. Candidate teams taking part in the election had conducted their campaigning activities in a lawful manner and proactively engaged with voters; while registered voters actively responded to the election in order to exercise their civic duty, noted Mr Ho.

Mr Ho also observed that the Electoral Affairs Commission for the Legislative Assembly Election had exercised its duties lawfully, strictly adhering to the fundamental principle of “patriots governing Macao”, and safeguarding the constitutional order established under the Constitution of the People’s Republic of China and the Macao SAR Basic Law.

Other public bodies, including the General Audit Committee of the Legislative Assembly Election and the Commission Against Corruption, helped ensure a fair, impartial, clean environment for the elections. The cooperation of the candidate teams and registered voters had also contributed to that outcome, noted Mr Ho. He sincerely thanked those taking part for their effort and for their support in ensuring the election was held successfully.

Looking ahead, the Government would, as always, maintain good communication and cooperation with the Legislative Assembly, supporting the body’s work in its new term.

The Government looked forward to working closely with the newly-elected Legislative Assembly members and with the Macao public in order to seize the historic opportunities created from the Guangdong-Macao Intensive Cooperation Zone in Hengqin; to facilitate in general Macao’s adequate economic diversification; to take part proactively in the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area; and to contribute jointly to the city’s long-term stability and prosperity; as well as ensuring the steady progress of the implementation of the “One country, two systems” principle, said Mr Ho.
