【DST】“Macao Week in Sichuan•Chengdu” will be staged in late September
As the pandemic situation remains stable overall in the Mainland and Macao, the Macao Special Administrative Region Government has progressively unrolled an array of initiatives to promote the destination including a series of “Macao Weeks” mega roadshows and related activities under strict compliance with pandemic prevention measures. As the latest of the series, the “Macao Week in Sichuan•Chengdu” will be held at Jiaozi Plaza, Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone in Chengdu from 23 – 27 September, to promote Macao’s diverse elements of “tourism +” and showcase Macao as a healthy, safe and quality destination. The event seeks to attract Mainland visitors for travel and spending in Macao in the upcoming National Day Golden Week to spur tourism and economic revival.
“Macao Week in Sichuan•Chengdu” will open on 24 September
Involving various governmental entities from Macao as well as the support of different enterprises and commerce associations, the Macao Week in Sichuan•Chengdu will unfold a mega roadshow at Jiaozi Plaza in Chengdu from 23 – 27 September, with the opening ceremony to be unveiled on 24 September. Featuring gastronomic promotion, tourism and MICE presentation seminar, business matching and networking among other highlights, the event will manifest the vibrant glamour of Macao for five days in a row.

Experience “tourism +” glamour
The mega roadshow will showcase Macao’s tourism, trade and commerce, culture, sports, entertainment and more dimensions through an array of booths themed as follows: Macao Good Shop; Macao’s sport events; overview about Macao, local gastronomy, festivals and events; MAK MAK Shop which showcases Macao Tourism Mascot MAK MAK and cultural and creative products; secret of Macao Grand Prix Museum; showcase of tourism products for sale; trade, commerce and economy of Macao; exhibition of the Economic and Technological Development Bureau as well as a showcase of Macao’s tourism industry presented by pertinent integrated tourism enterprises and airline company. In addition, a tourist information counter and installation of Macao’s destination image will be set up on site to provide Macao travel information. As a new highlight, there will be check-in points for wedding and travel photography at the roadshow. The event will join hands with online travel agencies to promote wedding and travel photography products in Macao, offering visitors a window into various innovative tourism elements the city has sought to offer.
During the roadshow, spectators can enjoy wonderful performances scheduled at the main stage. There will be New Age China-Chic Boy Band from Chengdu, who will perform the song “Crazy Folk” with traditional Chinese instruments; “Auspicious Lions Present Blessings” — a modern dance show combined with traditional lion dance; “Comedy Dreamer” — a modern dance show in Broadway style; “Space of Light and Shadow” — a modern dance show imbued with programmed LED lights presented by a team from Hangzhou, as well as a modern dance performance choreographed to the brand-new original song “Soar with MAK MAK” from Macao. In addition, the six major integrated tourism enterprises will arrange for special singing and dance performances to further enliven the roadshow.
Abundant travel offers with debut of “Macao Blind Box”
The event will present a total of over RMB-110-million special travel offers for residents there. As one of the highlights, “Macao Blind Box” will be set up with installations and available for sale at booths at the roadshow. Priced at RMB 99 each, the Blind Box will randomly offer abundant Macao travel products on hotel accommodation, air tickets, tourist attractions, dining, signature products and travel photoshoot packages among others.
In terms of online promotion, more information about the Macao Week in Sichuan•Chengdu will be coming up on MGTO’s official accounts on WeChat, Weibo, Xiaohongshu and Douyin. The organizer also rolls out an extensive promotional campaign for the Macao Week in Sichuan•Chengdu through various online and offline platforms while leveraging the wide influence of different KOLs from the Mainland.
Creative gastronomic promotion --- “A Delicious Inheritance of Sichuan, Cantonese and Macanese Gastronomy”
Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), Wynn Macauand Hotel W Chengdu will together roll out a gastronomic promotion entitled “A Delicious Inheritance of Sichuan, Cantonese and Macanese Gastronomy” from 23 September to 24 October. Weaving together the taste and artistry of Macanese and Portuguese cuisine, traditional high-end Cantonese cuisine as well as Chengdu Sichuan cuisine, the promotion seeks to foster the sustainable development of Macao and Chengdu as Creative Cities of Gastronomy and celebrate diverse gastronomic culture.
Jointly expand “tourism + MICE”
Seizing the golden opportunity brought by the Macao Week in Sichuan•Chengdu, MGTO and the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) will hold a Macao tourism and MICE presentation seminar on 23 September to present the strengths of Macao’s tourism and MICE industries for the trade there and facilitate networking among industry delegates from both sides. The two offices have held similar seminars at the Macao Weeks in Beijing, Hangzhou, Jiangsu and Shanghai as well as in various cities across the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area successively, forging ahead to promote Macao’s “tourism + MICE” development.
Strict compliance with pandemic prevention guidelines
During the Macao Week in Sichuan•Chengdu, the units involved will rigorously follow the COVID-19 prevention guidelines issued by Chengdu’s public health authorities and make appropriate arrangements for the activities to support pandemic prevention while all participants must adhere to the arrangements for pandemic prevention. At the same time, visitors are advised to complete the formalities for entry and pandemic prevention before visiting Macao and adhere to pandemic prevention guidelines issued by the Macao SAR Government during their stay.
