CE to visit Sichuan, Shaanxi Province from 23 to 28 September


The Chief Executive, Mr Ho Iat Seng, will lead a Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) Government delegation, from 23 to 28 September, to visit Chengdu city of Sichuan Province, and Xi’an city in Shaanxi Province.

While in Chengdu, Mr Ho is to attend the Pan-Pearl River Delta Regional Cooperation Chief Executive Joint Conference, held on Friday (24 September). The Chief Executive is scheduled to meet with leading officials from the Pan-Pearl River Delta, and attend the Sichuan-Macao Cooperation Conference as well as the opening ceremony of the “Macao Week in Sichuan•Chengdu” roadshow event, in addition to pay site visits to local projects.

Following the Sichuan visit, the Chief Executive will then visit Xi’an for the closing ceremony of the 14th National Games of China, held on 27 September, and take part in a ceremony jointly with Guangdong and Hong Kong to receive the flag of the National Games, as the three places to co-host the next edition of the sporting event in 2025. Macao has sent a 154-strong delegation to Shaanxi for the Games, which is being held from 15 to 27 September, and took part in an aggregate of 17 events. While in Xi’an, Mr Ho will meet with provincial officials to exchange views on issues of mutual interest.

The Secretary for Economy and Finance, Mr Lei Wai Nong, will accompany the Chief Executive in the Sichuan visit. The Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, Ms Ao Ieong U, will join the visit in Shaanxi.

While Mr Ho is away, the Secretary for Administration and Justice, Mr Cheong Weng Chon, will be the acting Chief Executive.

The Pan-Pearl River Delta Regional Cooperation Chief Executive Joint Conference is a platform launched in 2004 for regional cooperation between the nine provinces and two SARs – collectively known as the “9+2” – located in the PPRD Region, namely: Fujian; Jiangxi; Hunan; Guangdong; Guangxi; Hainan; Sichuan; Guizhou; Yunnan; the Hong Kong SAR; and the Macao SAR.
