Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that a total of 884 establishments engaged in industrial related activities (covering Manufacturing and Electricity, Gas & Water Supply) were operating in Macao in 2020, representing a decrease of 16 year-on-year. Total number of persons engaged dropped by 1,080 to 11,473. Receipts and Expenditure of these establishments amounted to MOP9.39 billion and MOP7.05 billion respectively in 2020, down by 19.7% and 18.4% year-on-year. Gross Surplus fell by 23.3% year-on-year to MOP2.34 billion, while Gross Value Added that measures the sectoral contribution to the economy went down by 13.5% to MOP4.68 billion. Besides, Gross Fixed Capital Formation declined by 34.3% to MOP1.14 billion.
There were 878 establishments that were related to the Manufacturing sector, down by 16 year-on-year; number of persons engaged dropped by 1,093 to 10,355. Receipts and Expenditure of the Manufacturing sector slid by 23.9% and 18.3% year-on-year to MOP5.46 billion and MOP5.09 billion respectively. Gross Surplus plunged by 61.0% to MOP368 million. Gross Value Added of the sector decreased by 29.5% to MOP1.82 billion and Gross Fixed Capital Formation slumped by 54.0% to MOP123 million.
Within the Manufacturing sector, Receipts of Manufacture of Food Products & Beverages went down by 37.2% year-on-year to MOP1.87 billion and Expenditure dipped by 25.4% to MOP1.80 billion. Gross Surplus and Gross Value Added of the industry saw respective decreases of 87.0% and 49.0%. On the other hand, Receipts of Manufacture of Cement & Concrete increased by 8.5% to MOP1.07 billion and Expenditure rose by 5.2% to MOP910 million. Gross Surplus and Gross Valued Added of the industry grew by 31.0% and 19.3% respectively.
As regards the Electricity, Gas & Water Supply sector, number of establishments stayed at 6 while number of persons engaged rose by 13 year-on-year to 1,118. Receipts of the sector decreased by 13.1% year-on-year to MOP3.93 billion owing to a fall in consumption of water and electricity, as well as a reduction in consumption of natural gas used for electricity generation which resulted from a decrease in local electricity production. Expenditure of the sector totalled MOP1.96 billion, a drop of 18.9%year-on-year. Gross Surplus shrank by 6.4% to MOP1.97 billion, whereas Gross Value Added went up by 1.2% to MOP2.86 billion. Gross Fixed Capital Formation of the sector declined by 30.7% to MOP1.02 billion.
