Package tours and hotel occupancy rate for August 2021


Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that a total of 115 hotels & guesthouses were open for business in August 2021, a decrease of 1 year-on-year; meanwhile, number of available guest rooms increased by 2.8% to 36,000. Data on hotels & guesthouses designated for medical observation were excluded in the compilation of the results. The average occupancy rate of guest rooms rose by 25.1 percentage points year-on-year to 38.4%; yet, it represented a month-on-month drop of 25.3 percentage points on account of the temporarily tightened entry and exit requirements in August.

The number of guests checked into hotels & guesthouses in August leapt by 136.8% year-on-year to 435,000, with Mainland guests (300,000) soaring by 573.9% while local guests (109,000) decreasing by 11.7%. Meanwhile, the average length of stay of guests grew by 0.4 night year-on-year to 1.8 nights.

In the first eight months of 2021, the average occupancy rate of guest rooms was 50.5%, up by 27.0 percentage points year-on-year. A total of 4,509,000 guests of hotels & guesthouses were recorded, a surge of 108.1% year-on-year, and their average length of stay extended by 0.1 night to 1.8 nights.

There were no inbound package tour visitors in August while almost 2,000 visitors joined local tours. Number of outbound residents using services of travel agencies was about 6,000, and 94.7% of them visited mainland China. In the first eight months of 2021, number of visitors joining local tours jumped by 262.9% year-on-year to 34,000, and outbound residents using services of travel agencies increased by 37.0% to 124,000.
