Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that a total of 115 hotels & guesthouses were open for business in September 2021, a decrease of 1 year-on-year; meanwhile, number of available guest rooms increased by 2.9% to 36,000. Data on hotels & guesthouses designated for medical observation were excluded in the compilation of the results. The average occupancy rate of guest rooms rose by 33.5 percentage points year-on-year to 50.6%; moreover, it represented a month-on-month growth of 12.2 percentage points in consequence of the relaxation of entry and exit requirements during most of September as compared to August.
The number of guests checked into hotels & guesthouses in September leapt by 147.6% year-on-year to 531,000, with Mainland guests (418,000) soaring by 213.4% and local guests (82,000) rising by 31.7%. Meanwhile, the average length of stay of guests increased by 0.2 night year-on-year to 1.8 nights.
In the first three quarters of 2021, the average occupancy rate of guest rooms was 50.6%, up by 27.8 percentage points year-on-year. A total of 5,040,000 guests of hotels & guesthouses were recorded, a surge of 111.7% year-on-year, and their average length of stay extended by 0.1 night to 1.8 nights.
There were no inbound package tour visitors in September while number of visitors joining local tours was about 1,000. Nearly 8,000 outbound residents used services of travel agencies, and 96.2% of them visited mainland China. In the first three quarters of 2021, number of visitors joining local tours jumped by 263.9% year-on-year to 35,000, and outbound residents using services of travel agencies increased by 39.6% to 132,000.
