Organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, with the support of the Galaxy Entertainment Group, the “China and Portuguese-speaking Countries Film Festival”, integrated in the 3rd “Encounter in Macao - Arts and Cultural Festival between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries”, will be held from 12 to 26 November. Themed “The Gourmets of Cinema”, the Film Festival presents 30 outstanding films related to gastronomy. The opening film “This Is Not What I Expected” will be screened on 12 November, at 7:30pm, at the Galaxy Cinemas. The public is welcome to pickup the tickets. The remaining movies will be screened at the Cinematheque.Passion, and the tickets will be on sale from 29 October.
Themed “The Gourmets of Cinema”, this edition of the Film Festival combines the visual and auditory impact of films with the taste and smell of food and drinks, creating a cinema feast that brings together all the flavours, from sweet, sour, bitter to spicy. The Film Festival is divided into three sections, namely “Contemporary China & Portuguese-speaking films”, “Macao Shorts about food & life” and “Flavors of China & Portuguese-speaking Countries”, featuring gastronomic films in Chinese and Portuguese, and allowing the audience to enjoy gastronomic stories produced by local filmmakers. In addition, a series of outreach activities including post-screening talks, lectures and cuisine workshops, allowing the audience to enjoy a feast of cinema and savour their lives.
In order to provide a cultural exchange platform between China and Portuguese-speaking countries from the screen to the dining table, making residents and tourists discover Macao, the Film Festival collaborates with local restaurants to present promotional activities. Members of the public who participate in the activities of the participating restaurants in the Broadway Food Street Fair, from 29 October to 11 November, are eligible to receive a coupon to redeem two tickets for the opening film “This Is Not What I Expected” during the aforementioned period, at the Cultural Affairs Bureau Building, during office hours. Audience members of the opening film will also receive a souvenir of the Film Festival.
In addition to ticket redemption of the opening film, this edition of the Film Festival launches the “Gourmet of Cinema Card”. Members of the public who consume a specified amount at six selected restaurants in Macao can receive a “Gourmet of Cinema Card”, and can enjoy a “Buy one, get one free” discount when purchasing tickets for any sessions of the Film Festival at the Cinematheque.Passion. Tickets are limited, subject to availability.
The Film Festival, in collaboration with local restaurants, will host two outreach activities, including the “Portuguese Cuisine Workshop” on 13 November and the “Chinese Cuisine Parent-Child Workshop” on 21 November, respectively, where professional chefs will guide participants to make traditional Portuguese snacks and classic dishes of Macao restaurants. Both activities will be conducted in Cantonese and admission is free. Interested parties can register from 10am on 1 November (Monday) through the “Activities Registration System” on the Cultural Affairs Bureau’s website at www.icm.gov.mo/eform/event.
