“hush! 2021 Concerts” presents a variety of music workshops

Organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym) and co-organized by the Municipal Affairs Bureau and the Macao Government Tourism Office, the “hush! 2021 Concerts” will be held from 6 to 28 November. During the event, four different music workshops will be held and all the residents who are interested in music creation are welcome to participate and collaborate with musicians to promote the development of local pop music.

The first three music workshops will be held on 13, 14 and 21 November at the Macao Contemporary Art Center – Navy Yard No. 2. The “Expanding a Band’s Creativity” Workshop & Concert will be hosted by the singer, composer and producer Aricalangi, who will show participants the process and techniques of arranging and interpreting songs in the style adapted to Macao’s pop music market. This workshop is suitable for experienced musicians and the general public. In “Making A Song in 3 Hours” - Workshop of Song Writing and Producing, local musician Pun Kuan Pou will share the process and techniques of creating songs within a limited amount of time. Applicants must submit a brief introduction of their personal music experience, be able to read and understand basic musical notation and be proficient in basic performing techniques. Seats for observers will also be available. The “Jazz Performance and Improvisation Workshop” hosted by veteran jazz performer Joao Marcos Gomes Mascarenhas will feature a jam session with participants where they will be taught various improvisation skills. The workshop will be arranged based on the level of the participants, so a brief introduction of their personal music experience is required upon registration. Both jazz professionals and beginner learners are welcome to join, and seats will also be available for jazz enthusiasts who want to attend the workshop. The fourth workshop “The Lovers Drowned in Love, and the Lonely Ones” – Joe Lei Talks about Song Lyrics Writing’ will be held on 21 November at the Maritime Training School, where the tutor will share the lyric creation process with the participants.

The workshops are open to all individuals over the age of 13 who are interested in music or meet the relevant requirements. Registration can be made through the “Activities Registration System” on IC’s website (www.icm.gov.mo/eform/event) from 10am on 5 November. Furthermore, registration is required for some of the performances featured in “hush! 2021 Concerts”, and interested parties may register through the same system from the same date and time indicated above. Seats for each workshop and concert are limited and distribution is on a first-come, first-served basis.
