Bringing all the excitement of the city’s upcoming motorsport extravaganza to both residents and visitors, this weekend’s 68th Macau Grand Prix Family Carnival got underway at Tap Seac Square today.
The opening ceremony of the event was held at 2:45 pm today (November 6th), and guests included: Mr. Pun Weng Kun, President of Sports Bureau and Coordinator of the Macau Grand Prix Organizing Committee (MGPOC); Mr. Chan Chak Mo, Member of the Executive Council, Member of the Legislative Assembly and Member of the Macau Grand Prix Organizing Committee; Ms. Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, Director of Macao Government Tourism Office and member of the Macau Grand Prix Organizing Committee; Mr. Chong Coc Veng, President of Automobile General Association of Macao – China and Coordinator of the Sporting Subcommittee of the Macau Grand Prix Organizing Committee; Mr. Allen Lau Cho Un, Deputy Coordinator of the Macau Grand Prix Organizing Committee; Ms. Christine Lam Lin Kio, Deputy Coordinator of the Macau Grand Prix Organizing Committee; Dr. Rui Cunha, Secretary-General of SJM Resorts, S.A.; Mr. Sam Chong Nin, Vice President of Corporate Communications and Community Affairs of Sands China Ltd.; Mr. Buddy Lam, Senior Vice President of Public Relations of Galaxy Entertainment Group; Mr. Clarence Chung, Board of Director of Melco Resorts & Entertainment; Mr. Kenneth Feng, President, Chief Strategic and Financial Officer of MGM China Holding Limited; Ms. Linda Chen, Vice Chairman and Executive Director of Wynn Macau, Limited, members of the Macau Grand Prix Organizing Committee and Subcommittees; representatives of other sponsors, and members of the Sports Committee.
The concept of the Family Carnival sees a simulation of the Guia Circuit created at Tap Seac Square, with a mini race track and interactive games for all ages. Participating children become mini racers and track officials, gaining realistic experience of the difference roles while learning about the many tasks supporting the event. Visitors also have the opportunity to obtain attractive souvenirs.
The Family Carnival continues tomorrow (Sunday) from 10am to 9pm. There are a number of motor racing simulation games including: a Mini Guia Circuit, Fire Elite, Medical Expert, Flag Bearer, Electrical and Mechanical Engineer and The Crane Operator, etc., to let children experience the thrill of the Grand Prix.
The organizer reminds all those who have made an appointment to arrive at the event promptly at the allocated time. There are a small number of places available onsite. Participants must undergo a temperature check when entering the venue, must wear a mask and display the "Macao Health Code".
The 68th Macau Grand Prix will be held from November 19 to 21. Tickets are now on sale with special discounts. In addition to the Family Carnival, the Macau Grand Prix Organizing Committee (MGPOC) will also hold the Grand Prix Opening Ceremony and Auto Show from November 13th to 14th at Tap Seac Plaza so residents can see the Grand Prix supercars up close.
In addition, in order to further promote racing culture and encourage Macao residents to participate in the Grand Prix in different forms, the 68th Macau Grand Prix Photo Contest will be held. Entries may be submitted from November 22nd to December 30th.
The MGPOC is committed to staging the Macau Grand Prix and the surrounding activities, fully activating the associated positive effect of the Grand Prix, together with various sports and cultural events in Macao, to promote both the city and tourism. It is also hope the event will bring enjoyment and enrich the lives of residents by creating positive energy throughout every part of society.
In order to ensure that the event is conducted in safe conditions, strict epidemic prevention measures will be implemented during this year’s Grand Prix. The MGPOC will continue to closely monitor the development of the epidemic and make arrangements for epidemic prevention in the event in accordance with the relevant guidelines issued by the Health Bureau.
