The Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) has organised 46 Macao enterprises to exhibit at the China International Import Expo (CIIE). The participating entrepreneurs agree that expected results have been achieved and they have gained an understanding of the latest business information and industries of various regions through exchanges and discussions, which helps them explore the markets.

The 4th CIIE is held at the National Exhibition and Convention Centre (Shanghai) from 5 to 10 November. IPIM has set up pavilions in the “Food and Agricultural Products” and “Trade in Services” zones, which feature a total of 46 companies engaged in Made-in-Macao products, Macao brands, and local agents of food and beverage products from Portuguese-speaking countries (PSC), as well as local firms engaged in services trade. Nearly one third of the Macao enterprises are participating in the event for the first time.

Macao’s business advantages promoted through diverse activities

The “Macao and Lusophone Food and Beverage Pavilion” in the Food and Agricultural Products zone is equipped with multimedia and 3D equipment to display Macao’s efforts in participating in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the Guangdong-Macao Intensive Co-operation Zone in Hengqin, promote the advantage of Macao as a platform between China and PSCs, and introduce the city’s investment environment and services trade and MICE industry development. Onsite promotional activities also include consultation services via video calls, food and beverage tasting, business matching sessions, demonstrations of Macao pastry souvenirs are made, and an introduction to the “Economic & Trade Co-operation and Human Resources Portal between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries”.

The “Lusophone Professional Services Pavilion” in the Trade in Services zone serves to promote PSC-related professional services, including accounting, translation, and MICE event planning services, as well as air purification works for hotels and business establishments.

Moreover, nearly 120 government officials and entrepreneurs participated in the “Join Macao, Seize PSCs Opportunities” Investor Presentation Session on 6 November. The “PSCs’ Wine Tasting” was also held on the same day to further promote PSC products in the mainland.

Participating entrepreneurs from Shanghai and Macao feeling satisfied with the results

A Macao entrepreneur who joined CIIE for the first time reported that CIIE provided an opportunity for them to have face-to-face exchanges with enterprises from various regions, which has facilitated them to further explore business opportunities, give more exposure to their brand and products, tell the concept and story of the brand to local companies, and gain an upper hand in tapping the mainland’s market. They have also learned about the latest developments of the market and industries of different areas.

A Macao enterpriser who now participates in CIIE for the fourth time, said that the company has successfully forged partnerships to explore the mainland market at the event. A Wuhan entrepreneur said that CIIE has given them an understanding of Macao’s role as the China-PSCs platform and the city’s advantage in holding MICE events, with which they hope to explore different markets and development directions in the future.

Delegation of Macao entrepreneurs gaining information and experience at CIIE

A delegation of nearly 70 Macao entrepreneurs organised by IPIM finished their trip to CIIE and returned to Macao on 7 November. During their trip to Shanghai, the delegation participated in the activities held at CIIE, learnt about the latest development trends of industries in various regions and looked for potential partners.

In strict compliance with the relevant pandemic prevention guidelines issued by the health department of Macao, the delegation has taken nucleic acid tests during their stay in Shanghai and upon their return to Macao.
