Investor Presentation Session and Wine Tasting Joined by Nearly 120 Enterprise Representatives, Promoting Economic and Trade Development of PSCs, Shanghai and Macao

“Join Macao, Seize PSCs Opportunities” Investor Presentation Session is held on 6 November

To realize Macao’s role as a Sino-Lusophone platform and provide the latest updates on economy and trade in Portuguese-speaking countries (PSCs), Shanghai and Macao, the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) held the “Join Macao, Seize PSCs Opportunities” Investor Presentation Session and “PSCs’ Wine Tasting” today (6 November) during the 4th China International Import Expo (CIIE) in the hope of promoting the function of Macao as a Sino-Lusophone platform, with focus on the professional services provided by Macao in financial, legal and other fields. The presentation session was joined by nearly 120 entrepreneurs and 72 business matching sessions took place.

The “Join Macao, Seize PSCs Opportunities” Investor Presentation Session was jointly organised by IPIM, the Monetary Authority of Macao, Council for the Promotion of International Trade Shanghai, Macau Association of Banks, Macao Lawyers Association, and China-Portuguese Speaking Countries Investment Management Company Limited.

Executive Director of IPIM, Sam Lei, remarked that Shanghai and Macao have always been in close co-operation. The presentation session was held during the CIIE, where renowned products and service brands from around the world converge, in a bid to give participants a deeper understanding of the latest economic and trade developments of PSCs, professional services provided by Macao in financial, legal and other fields, as well as the services and support provided by Macao for business co-operation between the commercial and industrial circles of China and PSCs. Ultimately, the presentation session sought to help more Shanghai enterprises to “go global” and attract PSC-based enterprises to “invest locally” and seize opportunities arising from the development of the Sino-Lusophone relationship for joint growth.

Macao as a gateway to tap international market in Portuguese-speaking countries

In his speech, Vice Chairman of Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the Shanghai Municipal People's Government Zhou Yajun said that the close connection between Macao and Portuguese-speaking countries represents huge potential in terms of market collaboration. With Macao’s Chinese-Portuguese bilingual professional services, its role as a Commercial and Trade Co-operation Service Platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries, platform and information sharing mechanism, Macao is fully capable of assisting mainland enterprises in “going global” and develop PSCs markets, maximising the influence as a hub linking the international and domestic economic circulations.

Macao’s dual competitive edges that help enterprises explore business opportunities

Vice-chairman of the Council for the Promotion of International Trade Shanghai Gu Chunting noted that Macao serves as a platform in the mainland while boasting the close connection with PSCs in the international spectrum, making Macao a capable supporter for enterprises intending to expand markets in PSCs and explore business opportunities.

During the event, presentations were given by the organisers’ representatives and an on-site networking session was arranged.

Investor presentation session opens the doors to more co-operation possibilities

A Shanghai entrepreneur who joined the presentation session said they learned more about the function of Macao as a Sino-Lusophone platform, the financial, legal and other professional services provided in Macao, and the services provided by IPIM. They believe that they can leverage the platform to explore PSCs and possibilities in the Macao market in the future.

Tasting raises the profile of PSCs’ wines in Mainland China

In addition, during the “PSCs’ Wine Tasting” organised by IPIM on the same day, around 20 Macao agents of PSCs’ wines introduced local wine companies to their products’ different facets including the appearance, aroma, taste and texture. A Shanghai entrepreneur who joined the tasting session said they gained a new experience of wines from PSCs and agreed that the event highlighted Macao as a melting pot of Chinese and Portuguese cultures and its unique appeal as a Sino-Lusophone platform.
