Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the total population as at end-September 2021 decreased by 200 quarter-to-quarter to 682,300; female population (362,900) accounted for 53.2% of the total.
A total of 1,262 live births were delivered in the third quarter of 2021, a decrease of 37 quarter-to-quarter. Male babies totalled 664 and the sex ratio at birth stood at 111.0, corresponding to 111.0 male babies per 100 female babies. In the first three quarters of 2021, a total of 3,734 live births were recorded, down by 466 year-on-year.
Mortality decreased by 9 quarter-to-quarter to 551 in the third quarter. The top three underlying causes of death were Neoplasms (236), Diseases of the Circulatory System (121) and Diseases of the Respiratory System (63). In the first three quarters, mortality increased by 38 year-on-year to 1,702.
In the third quarter, new arrivals from mainland China with one-way permit (673) and individuals granted right of abode (136) increased by 12 and 19 quarter-to-quarter respectively; meanwhile, number of non-resident workers at end-period (171,418) went down by 843.
A total of 683 cases of marriage registration were recorded in the third quarter, down by 126 quarter-to-quarter. In the first three quarters of 2021, there were 2,465 cases of marriage registration, up by 600 year-on-year.
