Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that total merchandise export amounted to MOP906 million in October 2021, up by 14.5% year-on-year. Value of re-exports (MOP741 million) grew by 8.6%, with that of Perfumes and Beauty, cosmetic & skincare products jumping by 645.2% and 218.8% respectively. Value of domestic exports (MOP166 million) increased by 51.3%, with that of Garments and Copper & articles thereof rising by 56.3% and 42.3% respectively. Meanwhile, total merchandise import went down by 7.8% year-on-year to MOP10.63 billion; imports of Beauty, cosmetic & skincare products, Construction materials and Perfumes declined by 37.3%, 24.7% and 20.5% respectively, whereas imports of Mobile phones and Articles for casino leapt by 163.4% and 99.6% respectively. Merchandise trade deficit in October 2021 totalled MOP9.73 billion.
From January to October this year, total value of merchandise export increased by 24.3% year-on-year to MOP10.75 billion, of which value of re-exports (MOP9.12 billion) and domestic exports (MOP1.63 billion) went up by 23.3% and 30.6% respectively. Total value of merchandise import expanded by 83.8% year-on-year to MOP123.77 billion. Merchandise trade deficit totalled MOP113.01 billion for the first ten months of 2021, up by MOP54.34 billion from MOP58.68 billion a year earlier.
Analysed by destination, merchandise export to mainland China from January to October 2021 rose by 18.2% year-on-year to MOP1.60 billion, of which exports to the Nine Provinces of the Pan Pearl River Delta (MOP1.44 billion) increased by 14.9%. Exports to Hong Kong (MOP7.49 billion), the USA (MOP565 million) and the EU (MOP155 million) grew by 27.0%, 23.1% and 1.7% respectively year-on-year. Exports to the Belt and Road Countries (MOP261 million) expanded by 8.4%, while exports to the Portuguese-speaking Countries (MOP6 million) declined by 47.2%. Exports of Textiles & garments dropped by 5.2% year-on-year to MOP1.29 billion, while exports of Non-textiles went up by 29.9% to MOP9.46 billion.
By place of origin, merchandise import from mainland China (MOP39.82 billion) and the EU (MOP39.25 billion) in the first ten months of 2021 surged by 93.9% and 102.1% respectively year-on-year. Imports from the Belt and Road Countries (MOP20.13 billion) and the Portuguese-speaking Countries (MOP574 million) expanded by 84.7% and 1.8% respectively. Analysed by place of consignment, merchandise import from Hong Kong (MOP106.34 billion) showed an increase of 95.1% year-on-year. Imports from mainland China grew by 34.0% to MOP13.40 billion, with imports from the Nine Provinces of the Pan Pearl River Delta (MOP13.09 billion) rising by 33.2%. Imports of Consumer goods soared by 83.2% to MOP88.44 billion, of which imports of Garments & footwear (MOP11.07 billion), Watches (MOP9.99 billion), Handbags & wallets (MOP8.76 billion) and Gold jewellery (MOP7.52 billion) ballooned by 103.0%, 212.9%, 177.5% and 295.1% respectively. Besides, imports of Mobile phones (MOP15.24 billion) shot up by 532.9%. Imports of Fuels & lubricants (MOP5.01 billion) and Construction materials (MOP2.43 billion) registered respective growth of 14.3% and 58.5%.
External merchandise trade totalled MOP134.52 billion from January to October 2021, up by 77.1% compared with MOP75.97 billion a year earlier.
