Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that licensed motor vehicles in Macao totalled 246,452 as at end-October 2021, up by 1.6% year-on-year. Light automobiles (112,677) and heavy motorcycles (105,132) increased by 1.9% and 3.1% year-on-year respectively. Meanwhile, new registration of motor vehicles in October decreased by 17.2% year-on-year to 903, with that of heavy motorcycles (500) dropping by 22.6% respectively. In the first ten months of 2021, new registration of motor vehicles went up by 3.1% year-on-year to 10,197. Number of traffic accidents in October fell by 17.5% year-on-year to 889, with 2 persons killed and 348 persons injured. From January to October 2021, traffic accidents grew by 30.1% year-on-year to 10,626, which resulted in 3 deaths and 3,682 injuries.
Under the tightened cross-boundary measures between Zhuhai and Macao in early to mid-October, cross-border vehicular traffic in October declined by 46.1% year-on-year to 166,672 trips, of which light automobile trips (136,201) tumbled by 51.8%. Meanwhile, gross weight of containerized cargo by land went down by 30.9% year-on-year to 2,249 tonnes. In the first ten months of 2021, cross-border vehicular traffic (3,259,765 trips) and gross weight of containerized cargo by land (23,943 tonnes) increased by 78.8% and 7.7% year-on-year respectively.
Gross weight of port containerized cargo grew by 30.8% year-on-year to 14,203 tonnes in October; cargo being handled at the Inner Harbour (9,461 tonnes) and the Ká-Hó Harbour (4,742 tonnes) expanded by 13.2% and 89.6% respectively. From January to October 2021, gross weight of port containerized cargo rose by 36.0% year-on-year to 128,062 tonnes.
Arriving and departing commercial flights totalled 763 trips in October, a drop of 26.1% year-on-year. Gross weight of air cargo surged by 59.7% year-on-year to 5,280 tonnes, of which inward cargo (375 tonnes) and outward cargo (4,898 tonnes) increased by 27.4% and 70.5% respectively. From January to October 2021, number of arriving and departing commercial flights went up by 2.5% year-on-year to 11,826 trips, along with a growth of 54.7% in the gross weight of air cargo (37,692 tonnes).
As at the end of October, there were 101,053 fixed-line telephone subscribers, down by 6.9% year-on-year. Number of mobile phone subscribers decreased by 23.4% year-on-year to 1,266,831; prepaid SIM card subscribers (405,550) slid by 50.8%, whereas postpaid subscribers (861,281) rose by 3.8%. In October, internet subscribers increased by 5.9% year-on-year to 664,598. Total duration of internet usage in October grew slightly by 0.3% year-on-year to 140 million hours, while the duration in the first ten months of 2021 inched up by 0.5% to 1.38 billion hours.
