Officiating guests cut the ribbon at the opening ceremony of the exhibition.
Jointly organised by the the Macao Museum of Art (MAM), under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, and the Palace Museum, co-organised by the Macao Government Tourism Office and the Macao Foundation, and supported by the Macao Daily News, the large-scale exhibition “Quintessence of Imperial Kiln Porcelain of the Ming Dynasty from the Palace Museum Collection” was inaugurated on 10 December, at 5:15pm, on the 4th floor of the MAM. The opening ceremony was held in a lively atmosphere and was officiated by the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao SAR Government, Ao Ieong U; the Director of the Palace Museum, Wang Xudong; the Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao SAR, Yan Zhichan; the President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao SAR Government, Mok Ian Ian; the Director of the Macao Government Tourism Office of the Macao SAR Government, Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes; the President of the Administrative Committee of the Macao Foundation, Wu Zhiliang; and the Director of Macao Daily News, Lok Po.
The Palace Museum is currently the national museum with the largest and finest collection of porcelain from the imperial kilns of the Ming dynasty. The exhibition features a total of 120 representative pieces from imperial kilns produced in the Hongwu to Wanli periods, allowing the public to have a more comprehensive understanding of the varieties of porcelain from the imperial kilns of Jingdezhen in the Ming dynasty, and its artistic achievements, revealing the aesthetic tastes of the royal court in the Ming Dynasty. The exhibition presents a sizable number of exhibits of sublime quality, including First-class national cultural relics. The Cultural Affairs Bureau appreciates the Palace Museum’s efforts in bringing the priceless exhibits to Macao, and for allowing the much-anticipated annual cultural event to be successfully held in Macao.
The exhibition “Quintessence of Imperial Kiln Porcelain” is held until 6 March 2022. In order to enhance the public’s interest in the exhibition, an interactive photography area and audio guide services via QR code will be available in the venue. During the exhibition period, a number of interesting outreach activities will also be held, including lectures by experts from the Palace Museum, lessons on the Palace Museum, public guided tours, workshops, online virtual exhibitions and prize games. The Macao Museum of Art is open daily from 10am to 7pm (last admission at 6:30pm) including public holidays, and is closed on Mondays. Admission is free. In cooperation with epidemic prevention efforts of the SAR Government, visitors must wear face masks at all times, undergo temperature checks and present their health code of the day.
