Package tours and hotel occupancy rate for September 2022


Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that a total of 120 hotel establishments offered accommodation services to the public in September 2022, an increase of 5 year-on-year; number of available guest rooms rose by 4.8% year-on-year to 37,000. Data on hotel establishments designated for medical observation and self-health monitoring were excluded in the compilation of the results. The average occupancy rate of guest rooms in September dropped by 11.9 percentage points year-on-year to 37.6%, with the rate for 4-star hotels falling by 21.5 percentage points; in addition, the rates for 2-star and 3-star hotels recorded double-digit decreases of 14.2 percentage points and 13.6 percentage points respectively.

The number of guests of hotel establishments in September went down by 16.4% year-on-year to 440,000; Mainland guests (333,000) fell by 20.3% while local guests (80,000) rose by 1.2%. Meanwhile, the average length of stay of guests shortened by 0.1 night year-on-year to 1.7 nights.

In the first three quarters of 2022, the average occupancy rate of guest rooms of hotel establishments decreased by 12.9 percentage points year-on-year to 37.5%. The number of guests dipped by 25.5% year-on-year to 3,754,000, whereas their average length of stay increased by 0.1 night to 1.9 nights.

In September, visitors joining local tours leapt by 366.4% year-on-year to 3,600; number of Macao residents purchasing outbound services (booking for transport, accommodation and sightseeing tours) through travel agencies dropped by 9.7% to 4,700. In the first three quarters of 2022, number of local tour visitors declined by 31.4% year-on-year to 24,000, while that of Macao residents purchasing outbound services through travel agencies plunged by 78.1% to 28,000.
