The Chief Executive, Mr Ho Iat Seng, met with Deputy Secretary of the Zhuhai Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and Mayor of Zhuhai, Mr Huang Zhihao, to exchange views on partnership between Macao and Zhuhai, and promotion of development of the Guangdong-Macao Intensive Cooperation Zone in Hengqin.
During the meeting held on Tuesday (14 February) at the Government Headquarters, the Chief Executive expressed his thanks to the Zhuhai authorities for their strong support for the Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR), and for the Cooperation Zone.
Mr Ho noted the two sides had a sound foundation for cooperation, and looked forward to making even stronger effort to advance pragmatically the Cooperation Zone. Such steps would further complement the two sides’ respective industrial strengths; encourage innovations in policy-making for the purposes of coordinated development; promote industrial development for reciprocal benefit; make better use of the unique advantages of Macao under the “One country, two systems” principle; and accelerate, via such joint effort, Macao’s adequate economic diversification.
Mayor Huang thanked the Chief Executive for Macao’s engagement with, and support for, Zhuhai. Cooperation with Macao would be a top priority for Zhuhai in its work during 2023, stressed Mr Huang.
Zhuhai would strengthen its support to position the Cooperation Zone as a platform offering new opportunities to advance Macao’s adequate economic diversification. Zhuhai would also employ innovative ideas to realise the goal of developing, in the Cooperation Zone, world-class manufacturing clusters. Mr Huang also mentioned further effort to facilitate cooperation in finance, science and technology, and the MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions) industry.
The Chief-of-Office of the MSAR Chief Executive’s Office, Ms Hoi Lai Fong, leading Zhuhai officials, and Cooperation Zone officials attended the meeting.
