Macao Secretary for Economy and Finance Lei Wai Nong attended the opening ceremony of the “Annual Conference of the Boao Forum for Asia 2023” in Hainan today (March 30) and listened to the keynote speech by Premier of the State Council Li Qiang. During his stay in Hainan, the Secretary for Economy and Finance met with the Vice Governor of Hainan Province Ni Qiang, and visited the Exhibition Hall introducing the Jiangdong New District in Haikou.
During the meeting between the Secretary for Economy and Finance and Hainan Vice Governor Ni Qiang, the two sides exchanged views on the economic development and key encouraged industries in Hainan and Macao, such as big health, modern finance, high-tech, conventions, exhibitions, and tourism, as well as the construction of Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin and the Hainan Free Trade Port. Both sides agreed that there is broad space for cooperation between the two legions in promoting multi-destination tourism and other sectors, which could further strengthen interconnection and partnership in the future, practically promoting the bilateral cooperation to a new level.
The Annual Conference is held in Boao, Hainan from March 28 to 31, with the theme of “An Uncertain World: Solidarity and Cooperation for Development amid Challenges”, in which four major topics have been established, including “Development and Inclusiveness,” “Efficiency and security,” “Regional and Global” and “The Present and the Future”, having thus attracted about 2,000 dignitaries, namely current ministerial officials and former senior officials, heads of international and regional organizations, business leaders and scholars from over 50 countries and regions to attend the Conference and discuss major development plans for the post epidemic world, thereby promoting international solidarity and cooperation.
During the Annual Conference, the Secretary for Economy and Finance visited the Exhibition Hall introducing the Jiangdong New District in Haikou, and was briefed on the planning and development of the District.
Accompanying the Secretary for Economy and Finance to the Conference in Hainan were Chief of the Office of the Secretary for Economy and Finance Ku Mei Leng and Advisor to the Office of the Secretary for Economy and Finance Chan Leng Leng. In addition, the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) organised representatives of the local industrial and commercial sectors to form an economic and trade delegation to attend the opening ceremony of the “Boao Forum for Asia”, several themed forums and networking sessions.
