Package tours and hotel occupancy rate for March 2023


Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that a total of 126 hotel establishments offered accommodation services to the public in March 2023, an increase of 6 year-on-year. Besides, the total number of available guest rooms grew by 0.7% to 39,000. The average occupancy rate of guest rooms in March rose by 46.3 percentage points year-on-year to 77.0%, with the rates for 5-star (77.2%) and 2-star hotels (80.9%) surging by 50.2 percentage points and 46.2 percentage points respectively.

The number of guests of hotel establishments in March leapt by 164.4%year-on-year to 972,000; guests from mainland China (694,000), Hong Kong (186,000) and Taiwan (13,000) jumped by 156.9%, 933.7% and 478.4% respectively, whereas local guests (49,000) went down by 31.4%. Meanwhile, the average length of stay of guests shortened by 0.2 night year-on-year to 1.6 nights.

In the first quarter of 2023, the average occupancy rate of guest rooms of hotel establishments went up by 33.9 percentage points year-on-year to 74.7%. The number of guests soared by 96.3% year-on-year to 2,699,000, while their average length of stay decreased by 0.2 night to 1.7 nights.

In March, number of visitors arriving on package tours totalled 93,000; meanwhile, a total of 30,000 Macao residents purchased outbound services through travel agencies, an uplift of 892.6% year-on-year. In the first quarter of 2023, number of visitors arriving on package tours totalled 110,000, and that of Macao residents purchasing outbound services through travel agencies surged by 486.4% year-on-year to 64,000.
