Selection results of the Local Curatorial Project for Art Macao are announced Exhibition of the selected proposals to be held from September

“Art Macao: Macao International Art Biennale 2023” (hereinafter referred to as “Art Macao 2023”) will be held this summer. Under the patronage of the Secretariat for Social Affairs and Culture of the Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region, the event is organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau and co-organised by the Macao Government Tourism Office, Galaxy Entertainment Group, Melco Resorts & Entertainment Limited, MGM, Sands China Ltd., SJM RESORTS, LIMITED and Wynn Macau, Limited. The selection results of the “Local Curatorial Project” in this event have been announced recently, and the four selected proposals are “The Revelations for X” (temporary name) proposed by MyLand Culture, “The Typhoon of Destiny” proposed by the “ART YIIMA” art group, “Synchronicity - Topology of Mind” proposed by Alice Kok, and “The Secret of The Golden Flower” proposed by Chang Chan. These four inspirational proposals will be transformed into four exhibitions, each to be held for a period of no shorter than eight weeks between September and November.

The selection of exhibition proposals for the “Local Curatorial Project” was made through an open call in a bid to uncover local curatorial talent, encourage innovation and push forward the development of contemporary art. 28 proposals were received for this project, which share the same theme of “Art Macao 2023” – “The Statistics of Fortune”. The preliminary review was carried out by a panel of five judges on 31 May, including the Director of the Macao Museum of Art, Susanna Un; the Chief Curator of “Art Macao 2023” and the Vice President of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, Qiu Zhijie; the Executive Director of the Shanghai Museum of Contemporary Art, Miriam Sun; professor at the School of Arts Administration and Education of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, Liu Libin; and Macao artist James Wong. The final selection was conducted by these five experts on 17 June, together with six other judges, namely the Assistant Vice President of the Galaxy Entertainment Group, Christina Sin; the Vice President of Events & Promotions of Melco Resorts & Entertainment Limited, Christy Cheong; the Director of Arts and Culture of MGM, Canny Ho; the Executive Director of Special Projects of Venetian Macau Limited, Catherine Kong; the Marketing Services Director of SJM RESORTS, LIMITED, Wallus Leung; and the Vice President of Special Events of Wynn Macau, Limited, Yolanda Lao. The four proposals above were eventually selected after the rigorous review of the eleven judges.
