Public Library of the Cultural Affairs Bureau launches the 36th issue of Books and the City

The 36th issue of Books and the City, published by the Public Library of the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC), is now available to the public. Themed “Read Fun, Love More”, this issue invites “reading lovers” from different sectors in Macao to share their experiences about how reading has improved their lives and to recommend some nice books. Moreover, this issue also introduces the “Book Delivery Services”, “Interlibrary Loan” and “Document Delivery”, which are provided by IC’s Public Library for the readers’ convenience, promoting the development of Macao as a city of reading.

In this issue, the “Library Handbook” offers readers a rich variety of content, revealing how the rare books standing in the high shelves deep inside the book chamber were digitalised through the skills of library staff while also showcasing the encouraging results of the “Book for Book” Activity in March. The section “Author’s Say” introduces A Song to Relieve a Thousand Sorrows, a richly illustrated book of oral history which vividly depicts the experience of Au Kwan-cheung, the master of “Naamyam Narrative Songs”, an item of Macao’s Intangible Cultural Heritage The section “New Launch” introduces a rich variety of new books, movies and magazines. This issue also features 10 brief yet insightful book reviews in Chinese, Portuguese and English.

A total of 3,000 copies of Books and the City are available free of charge at all branch libraries under IC, higher education institutions, Tap Seac Gallery and several bookstores, as well as cultural and art facilities in Macao. The online version is available on the website of the Public Library of the Cultural Affairs Bureau at www.library.gov.mo.
