Airport fuel farm exercise was deemed successful

Macau International Airport held the Exercise “Fire in Fuel Farm” – 2024 on May 8, 2024, simulating a scenario where a fire broke out in the airport fuel farm and the emergency rescue operations were carried out successfully.

Macau International Airport held the Exercise “Fire in Fuel Farm” – 2024 this afternoon, simulating a scenario where a fire broke out in the airport fuel farm and the emergency rescue operations were carried out successfully.

The Exercise “Fire in Fuel Farm” – 2024 started at 14:30, simulating a scenario where a large fuel tank storing aircraft fuel caught fire at the top due to static electricity. Nam Kwong Petroleum and Chemical Co., Ltd. (the airport fuel supplier) immediately issued an alarm in accordance with the Airport Emergency Plan and evacuated vehicles near the fire site. The airport fire station sent firefighting vehicles to the scene immediately. Considering the danger of the incident location, the on-site commander evacuated nearby personnel and contacted the Fire Services Headquarter for additional support. The incident did not cause any casualties. The exercise lasted approximately 30 minutes and was deemed a success.

The purpose of the exercise is to test and evaluate Macau International Airport's emergency response capabilities in dealing with sudden incidents such as fires in the airport fuel farm. This includes assessing the coordination and cooperation among relevant entities and the effectiveness of the emergency plans, ensuring a prompt and effective response in the event of an actual fire to safeguard the safety of the airport personnel and properties.

The exercise was coordinated by CAM-Macau International Airport Company Limited, and the participating units included the Unitary Police, the Macao Customs, the Public Security Police Force, the Fire Services, the Civil Aviation Authority, CAM-Macau International Airport Company Ltd., Nam Kwong Petroleum & Chemicals Company Ltd., the Macau Security Company Ltd., Menzies Macau Airport Services Ltd., MCS-Macau Catering Services Company Ltd. and Air Macau Company Ltd.
